Guest guest
, I don't know why grains would be the first food you'd consider offering him. I would try fruits first.... banana, peaches, pears, apricots, papaya, mango, etc.... and veggies like sweet potatoes and squashes. SMALL amounts to start. Get him out in the sun for some vitamin D.... and start taking cod liver oil yourself (if you're not already) if you're still nursing him. Patti What to do with baby? Hi everyone! I have a 6 yr old with Asperger's who had a very successful 2 years on the SCD. We are now just doing GFCF to maintain. I am sensitive to gluten as well as my second NT son. Now I am having difficulties with my 6 month old who is so far showing no signs of ASD. Since food intolerances are so rampant in my family, I am very careful with what he gets. He has been strictly breastfed and we are now trying to offer solid foods. Our first attempt was brown rice cereal, ground myself. He threw it up instantly. I assumed it was because of the consistancy. I waited about 4 days and tried again with Gerber's organic rice cereal. He kept it down for about 1 hr before throwing up the entire content of his stomach (not spit up, full on throw up). I tried on 2 other occassions about 1 week in between with the same results. I'm thinking, great, another one of us who can't eat " normal. " So now I am wondering what can I give him? Any suggestions? I worry about him not getting enough vit D and iron now. Thanks for the help! 6, Asperger's (thanks to the SCD) Aidan 4, NT with gluten sensitivity Asa, 6 months, NT
Guest guest
I guess the reason I chose to start with rice is because that is what all the books say (natural and conventional). I figured that since he has always been breastfed, never had antibiotics or any gastrointestinal problems at all, that he shouldn't have a problem digesting it. I guess I was wrong. I'm thinking we'll just have to have him on the SCD from the get go.
Guest guest
Sorry, but I believe sweet potatoes are illegal for SCD. > > , > > I don't know why grains would be the first food you'd consider offering him. > > I would try fruits first.... banana, peaches, pears, apricots, papaya, mango, etc.... and veggies like sweet potatoes and squashes. Guest guest
Yes, I know.... this baby isn't on SCD. She was just trying to begin feeding the child solid foods. Sweet potatoes are definitely better than rice... or any other grains... for a non-SCD baby. Patti Re: What to do with baby? Sorry, but I believe sweet potatoes are illegal for SCD. Guest guest
I just thought I would keep it clear for the SCD message board. > > Yes, I know.... this baby isn't on SCD. Guest guest
Our baby just turned one today (!) and had her first grain at 11 months. I agree with what Patti said about giving fruits and veggies rather than grains first. We also didn't start any food until she was 9 months. As long as you're breastfeeding, 6 months is not a " magic age " at which to start solids.... Good luck, Ellen 9 y/o dd scd since 5/06 for crohn's
