Guest guest
Sorry , I didn't realize you ment this for Kim and not just those who have connections with G551D, until I'd sent my post. Guest guest
, Genistein is an isoflavone (found in soy) that is being studied for it's ability to induce chloride secretion in people with the G551D mutation. Genistein doesn't work for people who are homozygous for the F508 mutation, but ongoing studies are looking at its effect on R347P and R117H mutations. For people who have the Delta F508 mutation, researchers are studying the flavonoid quercitin, which is found abundantly in plants (vegetables, fruits, herbs). This is why the Crataegus yahoo group began. Crataegus (also known as hawthorn) is abundant in quercitin. Some people using it after Gould contacted Blank, a German mother, who researched it based on the ongoing work of researchers Beatte Illek and Pamela Zeitlin. was able to turn around the health of her daughter's CF by using crataegus. One of the first and immediate benefits you see is normalization of bowel movements, which helps the body come into homeostasis. Dawn, if you want to know more about genistein, search the Crataegus archives. I know Roe was using it for her son instead of crataegus since he carries that mutation. Guest guest
Patti has both Delta F508 and G551D. So would she need to take the cretaegus and the genistein together. It would be interesting to see if it would work or if they would cancel each other out. Guest guest
Dawn, I'm trying to remember because I know this has previoulsy been discussed on the Crataegus list. But I think what I'm remembering is that you don't take crataegus along with silymarin (another herb) because they cancel each other out. Silymarin is beneficial for liver issues, and I think it has genistein in it. Crataegus doesn't have genistein but is a rich source of quercitin and other flavonoids. The one to ask is Roe; she has lots of genistein research. I know she lurks on CF Parents time to time, but you're more apt to get her attention on Crataegus or Sharktank. Guest guest
Kim, Sorry to jump in here, Eilish also takes a liver tablet as her bile was not emptying quick enough. So is Silymarin helpful for that? If so is that obtained through a health food shop?
