I'm not an expert, but it looks like he is getting way too much protein and not

enough vegetables and fruit. With everything going well and it being week

three, can't you add in some more variety, such as zucchini, pear sauce, etc?

Pale stools

Good morning,

We're starting the third week of the diet with GREAT success with my

10 year old son diagnosed with Crohns one year ago. We now

officially have CONSISTENT formed stools, little to no gas pain and

he is still eating fantastic.

My question is this...we're still dealing with very pale stools. It

hasn't darkened up. Here is a sampling of what he is eating:

Breakfast:

banana pancakes (2 eggs with mashed bananas)

2 slices of cheddar cheese

Grape juice

Snack:

1/2 banana

Lunch:

Turkey patty

green beans (french style)

cheddar cheese

Snack:

sliced chicken strips

Dinner:

fish

butternut squash slices

jello

maybe some cheese or a banana or banana yogurt smoothie if still

hungry.

Can you offer any help on how to darken the stools? We're also

doing the B vitamins, A vitamins and digestive enzymes.

Thank you

I agree. I would add in another veggie or fruit. Zucchini or spinach would be

an easy to digest veggie, and applesauce or pearsauce would be a good fruit

choice.

I recently googled stool colors, and in all honesty, the results I

found indicated that there is a great variation in stool colors. Pale

as in white or clay gray is of concern. But light brown did not seem

to be a concern. I found out that vegetarians have a lighter colored

stool than meat eaters. We are not vegetarian, but we do eat lots of

fruits and veggies. Anyway, the variety considered acceptable eased

my mind about 's stool. Probably there are others more into

science that may disagree with this, but this is what I found.

remember reading that it has something to do with an inability to

properly digest fats. You are already using digestive enzymes.... so

I'm not sure. ?? Is there a lipase enzyme in the one you're using?

That is, I think, the one that digests fats.

Patti,

i was just reading these posts and had to mention that since I have introduced

Coconut milk Sebastian's stool colour has changed to a " not quite mustard " / " not

really yellow " /light green sort of colour with bits of white in them. Is this

something I should be concerned about.

I followed the recipe using half a cup unsweetened shredded coconut and adding

boiling water, and blending together.

I started with 50ml Coconut milk adding 300ml of water to dilute the coconut

milk. He really enjoys this drink a lot!!

Thanks

Tina

Hi Patti,

Yes I'm definitely straining out all the fibrous bits. Sebastian still drinks

from a baby bottle so it would not fit through the hole in the teat. Even if by

chance one tiny bit got through the sieve, but that I would have noticed because

the tiny bit would have gotten stuck in the teat and I would have had to take it

out, so that he can carry on drinking.

Sebastian had that sort of stool a while back instead of white specks it was

yellow. Just tiny little parts of the stool.

The other thing I noticed is his stool is slightly more textured/grainy/gritty

something like that, on Saturday. Not a lot just a little. Sunday and Monday the

texture was better and the colour still the same.

The colour just amazes me though. previously it was always sort of crocodile

green(leaf green) now it's like someone mixed a lot of white paint in with the

crocodile green colour.

Could the colour at all mean that he is not digesting the coconut milk and it's

going right through?

I'll wait and see what happens tomorrow.

I've started giving Sebastian the coconut milk twice a day as he really likes

it.

Any advice?

Thanks

Tina

Tina,

You are straining out the fibrous pulp of the coconut after blending? You

really should do that at this point.

If you're not, that could account for the " white bits " . I would not be at all

surprised to find that introducing coconut milk causes a bit of die-off,

too..... because it has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral qualities.

So, *possibly*, the greenish stool is a result of that? I'm not sure. I just

know that we frequently hear reports of greenish colored stool in the beginning

of SCD..... and it's usually temporary.

Elaine was always delighted to hear about green stools..... because she said

that indicated that big changes were happening down there! :)

Tina,

Did you strain it after blending? If not, the little white flecks are probably

coconut fiber that is undigested.
