CCK antagonist and SOD

Ok if you have been following this with me and have read the link

about the hormones and connection between your brain, nerves, and

gut, you may have been wondering the same thing I have. Would a CCK

antagonist medicine (like Xanax) relieve SOD pressure? After all

the natural given hormone allows the duct to relax, so why not?

This is getting exciting to find out information never presented

before! Focused on the solution rather than the problem,

One weakness that I see with this hypothesis is that if CCK

allows the duct to relax...(and stimulates the release of pancreas

juice) then blocking this action with an antagonist may create the

opposite of relaxation(?) That is, a duct that will maintain its

muscle tone thus causing the juice to back up and cause even

more pressure?

I think that the idea behind injecting a hormone " blocker " is to

stop the release of juice so the pressure in the duct doesn't

increase causing all the problems with pancreatitis pain. And I

think that is the thinking behind an anti-spasmodic - to relax the

smooth muscles involved with the sphincter. So ideally the

combination would be to stop juice production while relaxing the

sphincter.

The other weakness that just came to me is that relaxation of the

sphincter may not always be desired...because this is one

hypothesis that is thrown out there as a cause of alcoholic

pancreatitis....that is, that alcohol somehow relaxes the sphincter

which causes a " back - flow " of activated bile and pancreactic

fluid...that is, the fluid goes into the pancreas instead of out to the

sphincter which causes destruction. pain, etc.

However, the idea that you are presenting is worth consideration.

Most of what we do to make our life easier is purely trial and

error and application of thinking like this!
