Guest guest
Hi everyone! I have a couple of quick questions on the subject of legal. I've been looking up juice info. too. I've read labels and looked at their company websites re: ingredients. What about Hansen's Natural Grape? Or Whole Foods 365 brand grape? They both appear to be fine. Also, we just started SCD last week. My son is two and has been diagnosed with Leaky Gut. So we're just finishing up the Intro. diet and starting to add one thing at a time. I've looked thru the book. And the sites. And I can't find a suggestion list for begginers foods. I keep hearing that items are advanced etc. My husband and I understand the illegal list. I don't mean to be goofy but where is the list of what to eat during the first phase etc? Thank you for some guidance. We were dairy free before this incredible diet came into our lives. What about the yogurt? Both of our toddlers consume yogurt by the pint. I understand that when the time comes to intro. him with goat. And once we see that he doesn't have symptoms from it, how much can he really be eatting? Cups? Pints? Once a week? Just watch his symptoms? Thank you so much!! :)Aimee > > Sorry, there is no legal pear juice. You would have to make your own. Commercially manufactered pear and/or apple juice is strictly off limits. The only exception is fresh-pressed apple cider..... kept in the refridgerated section at the store, or from a farmer's market. I've never seen " pear cider " , though. It's very easy to make if you have a juicer.... OR, just peel and cut up some pears and steam in a regular pan with a steamer basket and a inch of water in the bottom..... then SAVE that steaming water, and use it for juice. Guest guest
Hi Knudsen makes a 100% Pear Juice with " NO SUGAR ADDED " Is that the one you mean is ok? It does contain Ascorbic acid for the coloring as a ingredient nothing else. Roseann Re: Is there a legal pear juice? One more question Hi everyone! Guest guest
Amy, We can't OK those juices because Elaine is no longer here to check them out, and no one else has continued her work. If you really want to use them, you should get written affirmation from the company that there is absolutely nothing else in their product besides what is listed on the label. Even still, they're not required to let you know if they decide to change things on you. We simply can't OK it for SCD use. If you choose to use one of these products, it should be the first thing that you pull if you see negative symptoms of any kind or aren't progressing like you would like to. There is a " stages " chart on pecanbread.com within the food preparation section. I believe it is called " beyond the intro diet " . When you finally decide to introduce goat yogurt, start with a tiny amount like 1/8 tsp.. As you see that he can tolerate it, gradually increase the amount. He can have up to a cup per day, I believe, or double that if you drip it. I can't find the email from Mimi from way back where she answered this same question for me, but that seems right. Mim, let me know if that's not correct. Meleah Is there a legal pear juice? > > > I'd like to make the gelatin for my family, but my son can't tolerate grape juice or apple > cider. Guest guest
Aimee, It may be wise to review the pecanbread website again as your answers are there. .. I've looked thru the book. > And the sites. And I can't find a suggestion list for begginers > foods. http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html > We were dairy free before this incredible diet came into our lives. > What about the yogurt? Just watch his > symptoms? http://www.pecanbread.com/new/yogurt1.html Once ahgain, here are the approved juices: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/legalfoods1.html The reasons others may appear to be and may or may not be are explained here: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html We do not have the time to contact eevry company and reesarch evry food. Often the processing companies are not cooperative. Members are free to do that and verification must be in the form of a hand delievered hard copy letter, not email or phone calls to a company. Those who choose to try foods not on the legal list are at risk for regression and small amounts of illegal foods can cause problems. It sounds complicated, but have patience and go slowly. The pieces WILL fall into place. Carol F. SCD 7 years, celiac
Guest guest
Good Morning! Thank you so much. I think that I miss things on the pecanbread site due to my overwhelm....whew! I do appreciate that we're all are understanding and supportive. On a bacon note. We live in CO and bought a 1/2 of a pig last fall. Nothing is added or cured at all. Not only was it way cheaper than hormone free etc. etc. Nothing illeal added. Oh and a 1/4 buffalo- same thing. On a cost note. We have a friend in our church that's son is autistic and on similar diet. We buy bulk together and split it often. It really helps with cost. Happy day everyone. Thank you. Guest guest
The Knudsen pear juice is NOT legal. The only Knudsen juices that are legal are their " JUST " juices.... Just Cranberry, Just Black Cherry, Just Grape, etc. The pear is not legal and there is no such thing as a legal pear juice you can buy. Pear and apple juice goes through some sort of changes in the commercial manufacturing process.... concentration of the natural sorbitol content in these two fruit juices is problematic, which is why Elaine specified you can ONLY buy apple cider which is just fresh-pressed and put in the bottle, unfiltered..... and you will only find that kind in the refridgerated section or at a farmer's market. A home-juicer is one way to go...... juice your own pears and apples and they are perfectly legal (dilute!!!). Or steam a basket full of pear slices on top the stove.... and keep the steaming water. It will be very sweet.... and can be used as juice. Again, you *may* need to dilute, depending on how sweet it is. Patti Re: Re: Is there a legal pear juice? Guest guest
The " Stages " chart is under the " SCD Foods " tab on the new version of the website... then you have to scroll down to the " Beyond the Intro Diet " section. Guest guest
I'm coming in at the middle of this discussion, so please pardon if not relevant. We use Knudsen's Just Black Cherry to help with our son's tummy aches. The cherry is alkaline (to work against GI aches caused by acid). He really likes it. _____ From: pecanbread [mailto:pecanbread ] On Behalf Of Patti Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2007 1:58 PM To: pecanbread Subject: Re: Re: Is there a legal pear juice? Guest guest
Thank you very much for the great suggestion. We will give this advice when we hear about stomach aches. Guest guest
Thank you for all of your help. All of you spend so much time helping all of us. Thanks for the support. I thought of something that we've been doing prior to SCD and it's cheaper and our kids love it. We make our 'Lemonaide'. Very weak amount of pure lemon, water and a bit of honey to taste. They think they are hot stuff and drink it up. Happy week. :)Aimee > > The " Stages " chart is under the " SCD Foods " tab on the new version of the website... then you have to scroll down to the " Beyond the Intro Diet " section. > > > Patti >
