Guest guest
Hi, My daughter was taking ambrotose & we started SCD and stopped the ambrotose. Her MD had said if there is one thing he doesn't want me to stop, it is the ambrotose. Chloe has been off for about 3 weeks & is now falling down far more than she was (she used to have a helmet & didn't need it anymore). Her therapist wrote me a note saying Chloe was more floppy than usual. She has begun throwing her food/plates/etc. on the floor again. If I give her the ambrotose (4tsp/day) will it totally ruin the effects of SCD? Amy
Guest guest
Amy, You did not say exactly how long she has been on SCD.... three weeks? In these initial weeks, die-off symptoms are common and can make it look like a child is regressing, or getting worse initially. If that is part of what's happening, it's temporary. I understand that your doctor really wants you to use the Ambrotose.... but, as you know, it is NOT legal on SCD. YES, it will impede her progress on SCD. You will need to decide which intervention you think is more important. If you feel Ambrotose was giving you the results you wanted most, then maybe you should do that.... but you would just need to realise that you would not completely be on SCD if you do. It would be hard to say whether or not you'll get the true gut healing that SCD has to offer. Guest guest
Amy, Please email me prvtly @ jlessard1@.... Ambrotose is not SCD legal. Sometimes we need to follow docs advice though and our own instincts. I don't really think it's a rule to exclude all meds. or supps that isn't SCD legal. You would want to stick to it as much as possible to see the best results possible though. I would think after we are healed, we wouldn't need the meds or supps. As for us, we have decreased the amt.'s of supps needed due to healing. I don't think you should worry so much about 1 supplement. If it helps that much and doc recommended, I say go for it! (I might get in trouble writing this message). Good Luck! Jenn & Kali 21 months SCD -Recovering Autism, recovered PICA, recovering OCD ---NOW TRIES TO GET TASKS DONE WITH HER FEET!!! Guest guest
Maybe a short time without it can determine if the sugars in the Ambrotose are actually feeding the buggies though and maybe she's having die-off. It could be possible....Jenn & K PLEASE HELP - Ambrotose Hi, My daughter was taking ambrotose & we started SCD and stopped the ambrotose. Guest guest
As one of the list moderators, I must state that I don't agree with the statement below. I apparently need to re-emphasize that using an illegal supplement can indeed cause failure on the diet. It is true that Elaine advised us not to worry if a child had to take a medication that had a small amount of illegal in it, and was not available any other form.... but she was referring to essential medications that cannot be stopped, such as seizure meds. Ambrotose is a supplement.... not a medication.... and is pretty much entirely comprised of illegals. Of course, it is up to the individual to either follow SCD strictly, or to include illegal supplements and " hope for the best " .... but we can't recommend this as the best strategy. We know that a very small amount of illegal *can* make all the difference in success or failure on SCD. It happens every day. We would be doing all the families here a huge disservice by suggesting that it's okay to include these. Patti Re: PLEASE HELP - Ambrotose Amy, Please email me prvtly @ #####.
