celiac nerve block???

Hi , to all and happy holidays. My daughter is still in

Dallas hospital hopefully comming home tommorow .Its been two weeks

there. They did a laporscopic (spelled wrong) surgery and cleaned out

all her endometriosis and is fine in that area. But they said that it

looks like her main problem is from numerous attacks of

pancreatitis. They have her on methadone 4 times a day and 4mg

dilaudid every 4 hrs. for break through pain and some type of valium

3 times a day.And they want her to come back Wednesday for this

celiac nerve block ,which they said might help her a great deal.Where

they go in and block the nerve that is in the pancreas area. It

sounds like the perfect answer to us because if she has 1 month

without pain that is better than nothing. They said it might help as

long as three months or longer.Which that sounds like a dream come

true to us. She has had 8 months of constant pain. The pain

management team is taking over in trying to help her to manage her

pain.Has anyone heard of this procedure? and how well it works? She

is in alot of pain still but I think it is mostly surgery pain right

now.Its only been 24 hrs. since the surgery. If anyone knows anything

about this procedure I would love to hear from them. Thanks deedee

deedee,Happy holidays.Sorry your daughter is in hospital for them.In reply

to questions abuot nerve block,my daughter had one in Feb.In her case it didn't

work, but her doctor said it's different for everyone. Some people get

tremendous relief from it.We tried it anyway so he could have a look around her

panc

while he was in there. He also did some biopsies at the same time.I hope your

daughter finds some relief.I know how hard it is to watch your child suffer

with this awful illness and feel so helpless. Our job is to protect our

children,so it's doubly hard for a mom to deal with.Good luck and God bless.
