Before I head off to bed, I wanted to let you all know the most recent news

about Kaye. She called me today to let me know why none of us has heard

from her since her last trip to MUSC to see Dr. Cotton.

If y'all remember, she had to have a PICC line put in by her doctors up in

Asheville before she went down to MUSC. They had to get that put in so that

there could be access for her ERCP with Dr. Cotton. The doctor finally ended

up putting in the PICC line in her upper arm, above her elbow, with the thing

underneath her armpit. She said it hurt like the dickens when they put it in,

and continued to hurt for all the days afterward.

Well, they really messed up, because now it's been discovered that she has a

blood clot in her left arm, that's what was causing all that pain that she'd

complained about that no body wanted to fix! It's a long story, and Kaye can

tell it a whole lot better than I can, but the end result is that the clot is so

bad

that she can't use that arm or hand right now, and consequently can't type or

email anyone to let them know what's been going on. She had to go back into

the hospital, AGAIN, which now makes two more hospital stays that she's had

since she got back from ton.....and 7 hospitalizations since the first of

June!

She wanted me to let everyone know that she was okay, and that she was

thinking about everybody. And although she's able to read the messages,

she can't reply back until she gets further use of her hand. Right now her arm

and hand keep swelling up to more than twice their normal size......I can

hardly imagine how painful that must be!!

Unfortunately, this type of blood clot doesn't seem to be the type that they can

reduce with anticouagulants or anything. It seems that the best that can

happen is that eventually it will reduce or calcify on it's own. It could even

get

a bit bigger before it settles down. All she can do right now is keep her arm

elevated and try to use it as little as possible.

So send her a wave now and again, I imagine about all she can manage right

now is a wave back at ya! If I hear anything more, I'll pass it along. NOW I

can

go nighty-night!

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi

Kaye,

I know you can only read messages right now and I wanted to let you know

I hope that the blood clot dissolves soon and that you'll be back typing

to us soon.
