Guest guest
Dear , Probably, nothing to worry about. He will either get corrective shoes or the doctor will wait and see if it resolves itself. It is good that you are checking it out. - In cfparents , findacureforcf@a... wrote: > My youngest son is 2 1/2 years old, I have been noticing that he cannot > run well, he trips when he starts to run or walk fast. Guest guest
Hi: Our daughter who does not have CF had a similar problem. She slept with a brace that turned her legs outwards for several months, and it cured it. She's the proverbial " living doll " even if it's dear ole Dad who says so. Kids, unfortunately, sometimes come with various maladies that are not related to CF. I'm not sure if has the same problem, but whatever, there will be an answer for you soon. You don't have to go the med or law school to learn a lot about anatomy, diseases, and how to go bankrupt. You can learn it all by just having kids. Guest guest
, My daughter also has one foot that turns in. However, it does not cause her to trip or fall. Her doctor told us that if the turn is coming from the hip, it requires intervention. If the turn is from the ankle or knee, it should correct itself by age 5. If at that time it is still turned, we will have to do something. Some parents use special shoes or braces, but there is debate on whether or not it really works. I would suggest that you look at 's feet when he is standing still and facing forward. If his feet are facing forward, the problem should correct itself. Guest guest
Did you know that some of the worlds best runners have feet that turn in? Just a bit of mindless trivia, but hopefully it will help ease your concerns e
Guest guest
My daughter's feet were like that and she had these UGLY special shoes. I thought that was bad.....after CF...it doesn't seem that bad...its corrective! It sucks! Something else to worry about. Rosemary in NY with 3 children (13, 11 and 7) with CF. Guest guest
I missed the first post on this, but assume, as two of ours had this device, then called a " Dennis Brown Splint, " to correct feet that turned in--in the case of one child, from the knees, the other, from the hips. Everyone in my family walks with toes somewhat out, then I noticed my mother-in-law one day and her feet toed in; she said that most in her family did. Husband turned an interesting shade of pink and hid in his study. End of discussion. However, I always wondered just who Dennis Brown was and how he got the idea! Even my podiatrist has no clue on this one! n Rojas What could this be?(not cf related) My youngest son is 2 1/2 years old, I have been noticing that he cannot run well, he trips when he starts to run or walk fast. Guest guest
My daughter started walking at 8 months, climbed everything anytime, anywhere.... Around 11-months, she developed a milk allergy (which disappeared within a few months). However, she also developed a knock- knee, pigeon-toe look. Despite trying his best to reassure me that she'd be fine, our ped referred me to an orthopedic doctor. He pretty much blew it off saying by her chart that it looked like she was growing quickly, and she'd likely outgrow this by age two. But, he said if it really bothered me, I could get some a pair of high-top sneakers and nail the soles to a board. Only nail the left foot so the right foot would go into it, and vice versa, then put her in that every night when she slept. No thank you. As predicted, she did outgrow it without using the archaic shoe-board device. But he was much more concerned that due to the milk allergy that she wouldn't get enough calcium and vitamin D, especially D, since this was winter time. So he told me to get some cod liver oil and add some to juice... can't remember how much. I bought it and nearly fell over at the smell. I thought, no way will she drink this in juice! But... since she was also a really constipated tyke, we'd recently taken up giving her prune juice mixed half and half with water. I added the cod liver oil to the juice in a bottle and she'd toss her head back, swigging that stuff down like an old sailor. To this day, she laughs and can't believes she'd drink that, but is more horrified that I actually gave it to her. But I believe it helped saved her bones. Like Hal's daughter, mine is the proverbial living doll too.
