Guest guest
hi, my son nathan will be 3 in april also is not in daycare and we felt he needed interaction with other children so we enrolled him in kindermusik, its a national music and movement class for children birth thru 7, he loves it! we go 1x a week for 1 hr. there is a websight that will tell you if there is any local classes just by entering your zip. just a thought for interaction . nathan's teacher is a nurse so she is x-tra careful re: sick kids, germs, we just sit next to her and use antibacterial wipes before and after class on his hands.good luck amy mom to nathan > >Reply-To: cfparents >To: cfparents >Subject: RSV >Date: Fri, 20 Feb 2004 18:21:34 -0000 > >Hi Everyone, > >I just got a call from Children's and Shaelin has RSV. Guest guest
They have a shot that they can give to kids to help keep them from getting rsv. It's called synergis, I believe, but I'm not certain on my spelling. Your child takes a shot once a month during the winter cold and flu seasons. It comes at an unbelievably high price. They might consider Shaelin too old to have it next year. Hopefully people with more first hand experience will chime in. In the mean time you could try googling the name of the med. or RSV prevention and see what more you come up with. Dawn mom of 4, 8 and under, the youngest wcf RSV Hi Everyone, I just got a call from Children's and Shaelin has RSV. His bacterial cultures are not yet back but the RSV explains why he has been so sick with this cold. He was put on TOBI and Bactrim which I was told to continue for the time being in addition to the additional Pulmozyme treatment, vest and saline irrigations. Aside from the saline, he doesn't seem to mind the rest. He still has a constant runny nose and productive cough. I have seen some improvement since increasing his Omega 3's. I purchased the book and am using the canola butter, flax waffles and have cut down on dairy which seems to have helped. Is there any way to prevent getting RSV? I finally started Shaelin in Gymnastics and it was not too long after that when he became sick. He is not in daycare or preschool but I feel that he does need exposure to other children but... it is scary. Thanks again Kim for all of your expertise on EFA and DHA. Guest guest
Zach is still getting synagis shots this winter. Has anyone been able to get the shots the winter after your child turns two? I get the impression that the drug is only designed babies and would not be useful to older kids, but I wonder if it would be helpful to older cf kids. The price is very expensive. We are approaching the $3000 per month mark. The drug is given based on weight so the more the child weighs the higher the bill. We get shots each year from October through April every 28 days, so you can do the math. Sara > They have a shot that they can give to kids to help keep them from getting rsv. Guest guest
JC got the synagis shot his first two winters. It was actually our insurance company (an HMO) that recommended it. I guess they felt it was cheaper than a hospitalization. He turned two in March of the second winter. They gave the shots at the HMO, and the second year they commented on how JC got more per shot that most of the children they give them to because of his size. So they probably don't give it to them much older that 2. Angie P. (Ma to JC, almost 4yo, wcf) > > They have a shot that they can give to kids to help keep them from > getting rsv. Guest guest
Jeanne, I am so sorry that Shaelin has that nasty RSV. had shots to guard against it until she was 3. I don't know what else to tell you but to keep him washing his hands. Sorry I am not much help but I am keeping him (and mom) in my special thoughts! mom of 5 with CF and a boy on the way RSV Hi Everyone, I just got a call from Children's and Shaelin has RSV.
