Guest guest
Your experience sounds absolutely awful; I'm glad that you have come through it so well. They told me I would be inthe hospital any where from a week to 2 weeks; then I will not be able to leave until I have gotten clearance from the surgeon with my f/up appt on Dec 2. I have already booked my flight home for that afternoon so I hope there will not be any trouble with that. Do you have to go back to see Dr. Sutherland any time in the future for a follow up? My surgeon here will be following my care once I return home. I already have a scar from my sternum to my bellybutton from previous surgeries so good to know that might be the same for me. No new scars. How are you feeling now? Are you getting about any better? How's your appetite and your blood sugars, are you doing ok with the finger sticking? Is your employer m aking you return to work in 3-4 weeks? That really seems like way too soon to me. What surgeries have you had previously? I know I wasn't ready to do much 6 weeks after the previous ones I had. I hope you continue to recover so nicely. Do you still have the picc line? Oh and are you taking enzymes? I know, I am very nosey...lol Lets keep in touch, it will be interesting to compare how we do having had the same surgery in 2 different places. There is a group in yahoo that is total pancreaetomy survivors with and without ict. I have looked on it but have not posted anything to it but it looks like an interesting board. Good luck and stay well, Chrissy
Guest guest
Darren, What do you need to do to have this type of surgery? So many docotrs won't do it unless your near death. I found out yesterday my Sugar is 113.I don't have diabetes that I know of... in Ga. from Ohio Subject: RE: why aren't more people having TP/ICT? , I know how you feel about the feeding tube. I had one also and I hated it. I had to have it for a month. I had my TP/ICT on Sept. 24, 2004 and it was the best thing that I have done. I feel absolutely great now. I am off all narcotics and got my life back. I waited 2 1/2 years since my diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis to have it done. I wish I would have done it sooner. I only received 105,000 islet cells so I am type 1 diabetic. I had tried everything else and the TP/ICT was my only hope. It worked for me. Not too many places offer this service though. I had mine done by Dr. Sutherland at Fairview Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. He was absolutely excellent! Darren
