Guest guest
Personally, I would take a break from chelating. Many DAN drs. won't chelate until the gut is cleaned up. Obviously, he has some issues to get under control. We were SCD for nearly four months before our DAN started DMPS. I have been very happy with the results of the chelation, but I don't think we would've gotten them without SCD. I know that chelating can really kick up the yeast imbalance. We have never had to use an RX antifungal like many do when chelating. I really believe that it is because we allowed a fair amount of time for gut healing before beginning, and we have been very cautious to not have diet infractions during this time. I do think that he may have some small yeast issues creeping in, but I am going to try natural antifungals that are SCD legal. I think that I can keep it under control with those. So...yes, stop chelating for a few months. Be strict SCD. Be very careful that you do the intro properly. Make sure to introduce only pealed, seeded, and cooked fruits and veggies. In fact, we are still on all cooked and pealed fruits and veggies. I don't plan to try any raw stuff until spring at the earliest. I just think it's wise to continue with the easiest to digest foods since we are doing chelation and antivirals that tend to cause yeast overgrowth. Once you've had a few months of healing...seeing good stools, improved behavior or language maybe, or other signs that he is healing in the gut area, then try the DMPS. Hope this helps. We have seen gains in language especially. He is chelating with TDDMSA and has had a terrible bout with yeast. We had a few good stools at the beginning of the GFCF and egg free diet but now he is at 100% loose stools. Things are coming out almost whole. He cannot digest Grapes, peas and watermelon like he used to. So, my concerns are that we are going to have a worse die off than we have had the last 6 weeks from chelating.....Is there any suggestions to help me start the diet and avoid terrible die off? Should I stop chelating for a bit? Do I do the intro until he has formed stools???? His DAN! talked about moving to TD DMPS instead too..... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Guest guest
No, you don't do intro until you have formed stools.... just a max of five days if he has severe diarrhea. Two days is the typical recommendation for intro, then move on into the first, simplest foods.... peeled, de-seeded, cooked. Chelation can be very hard on the gut. Yes, I would stop for now..... I really think the kids are better off to do the diet first ( a healed gut can actually allow the body to chelate itself naturally), and get it really stable.... THEN pick back up on chelation. Doc may disagree, but that's my opinion, based on what we've seen here with many other kids. Patti New and starting diet in 1 day! My son has been GFCF since 8-06.
