Thanks for all the great advice! Just to update you, I did call the ortho and she advised to keep wearing the helmet, and the rash did go away rather quickly. I only used the cortizone 2 times, and I have only used alcohol to clean the helmet, and mild shampoos to clean the baby ( btw California baby does seem to work the best) I think what helped was to dress him even cooler than I thought I was, short sleeves and no socks at all, even though its quite cold outside he has been much better, the helmet sure keeps him warm. His head is not sweating as much at all anymore. Thanks!

le -I'm not sure what type of band you have but all of the major brands (Hanger,Star, Doc) specifically recommend cleaning the band with rubbing alcohol.Do not use shampoo or water on them. The liners of the band are porous soany water or other cleaning solution will get absorbed into it. It mightfeel dry but it really isn't and then the water will slowly eek back out andcause skin problems with the moisture sealing against skin. Worse yet, skinirritations can develop from baking soda, Clorox, dial soap, etc. that thesensitive skin of some infants just can't take. Rubbing Alcohol evaporatesand won't irritate the skin.MollyNovato, CaliforniaNicolas, 4, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/ 06,Graduate!, 6.5, 10 Re: heat rash??i have no definitive answers, but this is what i would do:1) take off helmet, wipe dry with towel and wipe child's head dry2) call orthosist3) switch to this shampoo for cleaning the helmet and your child's headevery day-- California Baby Shampoo and Body Wash with Lavendar and Tee TreeOil (available at

target). It's designed to prevent skin irritation.4) After one day with no helmet and following these steps, put helmet backon (unless instructed not to), resume normal helmet wearing schedule, buttake off and wipe dry 2-3 times a day.5) If this works, discontinue hydrocortisone. If it persists, try the creamagain in addition to the above. This is what I would do. Let us know how it goes.Best,Mom to Alena, 9 months old10 weeks in Hanger band, Sac, CA>> I have been reading through the old posts about rash but still am not surehow to handle this.> > My son has been in his helmet for 2 weeks, he just developed what

looks tobe a heat rash...its little red bumps all over his head some look likelittle pimples...does that sound like heat rash?? it started at hishairline so I put hydrocortizone and it seemd to go away, the next day laterit was all over his head...so I left the helemt off last night it seemedmuch better so put helmet back on today and in the evening its pretty redand bumpy again....so I put cortizone again and then put the helemt on?> > So my question is should I leave the helmet off/how long?? I mean willthis even go away entirely, or just keep coming back, not sure how he willwear the thing if this continues. > > I also thought at first that it might be irritation from somethingshampoo/cleaning helmet? should I take him to the Dr to see what they say?I mean normally you would just keep him cool and dry , but with the helmetobviously thats a problem ...so how do I handle
