Guest guest
, I too was hospitalized for approx. 3 months about 10 yrs ago and I was taking Phenergen every day (three or four times a day) until I was discharged and I continued to take as needed for about a year afterwards. I never had a problem with it then. Now, ten years later I can not take it at all. I shaking severely and am unable to sit down or sit still for more than a minute and it does nothing for the nausea. My doctor determined that I was now allergic to the medication and can no longer take it. Fortunately, Zofran works for me. It's nice to know we are truly not alone in this process. I thought it was " in my head " because how could I be allergic to something I had taken so routinely for such a long period. I hope you find another medication that works for you. Wishing you peace, Sue
Guest guest
, maybe you could try a different medication for the nausea. I take Reglan for my nausea as phenergan has no effect on me and Zofran is too expensive when a cheaper medication works just fine. Have you ever tried Reglan for nausea? You might ask your doctor for a sample to see if it works and then if it does, hopefully it won't cauase the same problems you have with phenergan. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Kimber, I'm mainly talking about these nausea meds via IV when I'm in hospital. I have some Zofran OT at the house, but they don't help me much. I've never had Phenergen orally before, and it will be a long time I take them again. I spoke with my insurance case manager, and she mentioned new ones that I shall inquire about next time i'm ever hospitalized. Guest guest
I also had problems with Phenergen. During one of my hospitalizations, I was given a dose of phenergen in my PICC. About a half hour later a nurse came to give me the dye drink given for a CT scan. At that time he gave me a second dose of phenergen to insure that I would hold down the dye. A couple of minutes later I actually lept from the bed and started screaming " HELP! HELP! HELP! " I was so frightened! I felt like I was jumping out of my own skin. It was awful. I never had an episode like that before. I was given a dose of morphine to calm me because I was in such a panic. My doctor then switched me over to Reglan. It works and it doesn't make me feel like I'm " speeding " .
