Guest guest
Diane, I know that you are concerned about this surgery, You should be! This is a major surgery, the risks and complications are there..You will be under anesthesia so there are risks from being under.. Anytime you are put under there are risks..Anytime, your body is invaded, there are risks.. The amazing things that I found when doing my research is that most of the mgb surgeries take about an average of 45 minutes. Many have been as little as 30 minutes. With the lap RNY, how long are you under? 2-4 hours? With the open--4-6 hours. I have a very good friend that went under the knife for tummy tuck and lipo and was in surgery 7 hours. So, In my mind, I think, less time under COULD mean less complications. Another thing, the other complications--bile reflux? I found a lady that had liposuction and a tummy tuck and developed bile reflux. Many people have bile reflux and never had any surgery. Also, check out the rny's and the other gastric bypasses and see for yourself that there are alot of complications with all of the WLS. Not just the mgb has complications, all of them do. You may come to the conclusion all by yourself, by doing the research and by talking with a lot of wls patients, that the mgb may be for you or it may not. One amazing site is the AMOS site, (association for morbid obesity surgery), I found many many people that have had all sorts of wls, and I read their stories and wrote emails back and forth with them. They helped me so much. Their stories are a true inspiration for anyone researching weight loss surgery (wls). Also, use the search mgb site, you put in key word and many, many letters appear.. The search tab is up top on the right, on the main mgb page. The main point that I want to make is that all surgeries have risks and complications and they can all lead to death. YOU must make up your own mind and be sure of yourself and your decision before you go any further. Read whatever you can find. Search the web for all of the weight loss surgeries. You can find bile and acid reflux under the gastrointestinal section of most of the medical pages. Read 's letters, whatever it takes to make an informed decision. I know what you are going through. I have been in your shoes. I got so excited about this that all I could think about was the mgb, how do I get it. Then one day, wrote me, she did scare me. I thought my mind was already made up. I thought, why am I doing this now. But that is when I decided that I would not listen to anyone until I did research. I sent a few letters out to dear friends and family and asked for their help. They would send me info and where to find it, and I would stay up nights and read, read , read. I finally decided that I had enough info, I weighed all aspects of weight loss surgeries and decided that if, I was going through with this, that the MGB was the only choice for me. I am not trying to sway you either way, the mgb is my choice. It may not be the right choice for you. I came to my conclusion after 3 years of considering it and after about 9 months seriously considering it and after about 2 long months of researching it.. Who knows what our future holds for us, only God knows. What I do know is that I am miserable with all this weight and I have tried so many times unsuccessfully to lose weight. I want to live a healthy life, My hopes and dreams and prayers are that with the MGB I will have a chance to be a healthy person. If for some reason, I am one of the ones that have complications, I will handle them then. I am willing to risk my unhealthy life to have a healthy life.. By the way, I will be having the MGB done on December 15th. I know, you are thinking, dang she did not help at all, but I hope I did help you realize that this is YOUR DECISION, do your research, find what you need to find for your heart and mind to be satisfied. Wishing you luck in your research, in Ga I use dogpile as my search engine and it brings up alot of info..

Guest guest
WOW! That's encouraging. I hope to get them to pay " in-network " benefits if possible. Diane :0)
Guest guest
- I know I want to have WLS. And I have done so much research. I have not stopped looking online for facts and articles. I am so excited about it too. The only thing that concerns me is an article I found someplace. It was talking about how the MGB was a ressurected version of the old loop. Is this true? I've read some things on Dr. R's site that says it's not the " loop " , but he doesn't really say what it is. I apologize for all the questions. I want this so badly. As I know all of you other pre-op's do. This will definitely change my life. And how I am ready for it. Thanks for listening, Diane :0)
