Guest guest
I can not sit, walk or stand for any extended length of time. I too before all of this was very active. I could go for long drives lasting all day. Now I am lucky to go across town for a Dr. visit! Before all of this I was a Systems Engineer, Hardware tester, Systems admin. recently receive my BSc in Computer Science and work in the computer industry for 17 years. Now I am living on long term disability and pretty much home bound. Walt > > WHAT ARE SOME WAYS THAT U DEAL WITH PAIN? Guest guest
I've been there, done that with the hot shower. Sometimes that really eases the back pain for me. I use a heating pad for that " after attack " soreness. If I do a lot of twisting (like sweeping or vaccuming) I can pretty much look forward to more pain. Same with outside activities...yard work etc. My 70 year old mother can do more physical activities than I!! Zoie > > WHAT ARE SOME WAYS THAT U DEAL WITH PAIN? Guest guest
, Hot showers or a hot jacuzzi are a good way of dealing with the pain. I have a large jacuzzi in my bathroom, and fill it up with scented water, light some candles and turn on the jets and relax in that for 30 minutes or so when the pain gets really bad. It helps for a while, and also the scented water and candle effect lull me into a temporary relaxed and loose state of mind. I've also used a Tens Unit for the pain and find that this helps considerably. So does a heating pad!! When the pain is bad I use a heating pad every night, set on a low-medium setting. When the pain has radiated into my back and left shoulder area, there is a chiropracter that has been treating me for over 15 years that I go to, and one session with him does wonders for the pain. I've found that aggressive physical activity actually makes the pain much worse, and the only kind of physical activity that I can tolerate is mild-moderate, such as walking, biking or swimming. I also do floor exercises while lying on my back in bed, such as leg lifts with weights, leg extensions, etc. These exercises are done 3-4 days each week, just to keep my thighs, butt and calves toned and limber. I do not stand for long periods of time, or rake leaves, and find that sweeping, mopping, washing windows, and even vacuuming, need to be done with caution, and only on days that I am NOT in pain. Months can go by where I'm unable to get down on my hands and knees to scrub or hand wash the floor. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.Griffeth South Carolina State Rep.
