Robin, You asked if anyone had gone the antioxidant route. I have, and I recommend it highly, especially for someone like you that doesn't seem to have developed into a severe daily chronic situation like most of the rest of us have. Although my pancreas has burned out and I'm diabetic now, I still take antioxidants daily. It turns out that some of the antioxidants that are supposed to be helpful for chronic pancreatitis are also known to help with control of blood glucose, so I've never considered not taking them. The antioxidants that the Manchester Royal Infirmary studies recommend to aid in lessening pancreatic pain are Beta Carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium and L-Methionine. They are effective when taken in specific quantities on a daily basis. I can post the site that explains how they work and what amounts are taken, if you're interested. I have noticed a distinct difference in my pain levels when I take them, and find that my pain increases during those times that I don't. There have been times when I've run out and my health food store doesn't have them in stock, and I do notice then that I have an increase in pain. I also have found that they have made a difference in my depression levels, too. This isn't listed as a benefit, but that's they way they work for me. Let me know if you would like more information. I think they would be especially helpful for someone who wasn't experiencing daily chronic pain. They seemed to make a considerable difference for me during the early months of my CP.
