Guest guest
where I have only a microwave available. I am > thinking of making custard or pumpkin pie in the microwave. Has anybody > tried this Hi, Beate, I used to make microwave custard in my turntable-style microwave and it worked wonderfully well. You don't need a boiling water bath and it is very quick. I have not unpacked my microwave cookbook since my last move, so I can't give you the directions I used. Try a search for " baked custard " + microwave. I did, and here is one method I found. The only thing I would be concerned about is that microwaves these days have widely varying power-levels. The times and settings of your microwave might not match the one in the recipe. Also, remember to cook less time if you put in less custard and more time if you put in more custard. I also think the method for pumpkin pie filling in custard cups would be the same. One Method: Pour into five 6 oz. custard cups. Sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon. Arrange cups in circle in microwave oven. Cook on simmer (50% power) for 9 to 12 minutes. Remove each cup as it begins to bubble, and is almost set in center. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm or cold. Good luck, , mom to
