Guest guest
Hi ...... You need a HUG.... (((((((((((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))))) If I were you, I would keep him HOME. They aren't going to be " learning " all that much during this holiday week..... and the focus on junk food is just unacceptable. They are being so totally insensitive to your child's needs, I would just stay home in protest! Your stress level will come WAY down.... and you will be better able to balance Dylan's needs with all the hustle and bustle of the season. Once he is in regular public school, you will have SO much more clout. You will be able to insist they toe the line with his dietary needs by having it written into his IEP. At the preschool level, you just don't have the same legal protection. It's still a battle sometimes in elementary public school, but you are much more likely to be able to get these things in writing and hold them to it. I will be gone most of the day..... but home after 3 pm.... so feel free to e-mail me off list. I've been wondering how he's doing. Patti Fed up with schools food demands -need advice!! I am soooo sick and tired of the school asking me for a " comparable " treat for this or that. My son has ASD and we have been SCd since August. They are all fully aware of Dylans very restricted diet and know he is to get only home sent treats...which I make all myself like many of you. This week, they want me to send in something comparable for,OT, speech and his christmas party which (I refuse to send him to!)I cried all the way home from the school on halloween after watching my son beg for pudding, cupcakes,CANDY.And getting a hold of a piece. I need something comparable to a cookie and ICING...(we are combating a major yeast issue, so we are backing off the honey, juice, fruit etc....and trust me he is going to want the cookie), Wed, they want a " snack mix " theirs will be made from Ritz, popcorn, gumdrops, licorice and marshmallows. JUNK...all of my sons old favorites. My son is in a special ed pre school, not an autism class. The parents are in complete denial about their kids issues so they think that because my son speaks in 3 word sentences that he must be severe, and they dont believe in dietary restrictions. One of my sons classmates eats chicken in a biskit nad cream of potato soup...thats it. Sound familiar ASD moms? . Does anyone feed this crap to their NT kids? I sure don't! I realize that this is a special week.....but whith the massive rise in diabetes, obesity and learning issues...why oh why are we subjecting our other kids to this?I am beside myself and I want to hire a nutritionist to go in there and shake em up a bit and say, you are responsible for them LEARNING.....Why would you give foods with no nutritional value. How do you all handle this issue with schools. do I need to give a doctors note? Should I keep him home this week? I dont want him to miss out on the learning....but I cant trust them. He sees marshmallows and you will need a hannibal lechter straight jacket to restrain him.
Guest guest
More HUGS for .. I am sorry that you have to go through all that stress. Big hug to your child too. I really struggle around the holidays also. My holiday wish is to make Christmas more about love, peace, compassion, music and less about food. The Standard American Diet is really SAD. -Ana > > Hi ...... > > You need a HUG.... (((((((((((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))))) > > If I were you, I would keep him HOME. Guest guest
Thanks as always kiddo...I think I am going to keep him home. I am working on the day of the christmas party, so i knew hed be home that day. His teacher is really very understanding, the speech teacher is a B..... and i dont care for her at all. She is the one who told me I was wasting my time.Dylans teacher actually Sings my praises...but she has to honor the other parents wishes as well. I am truly the minority, so i lose every time.his teachers is amazed at his progress, but the speech nut thinks its her great therapy skills(which suck eggs).Dylans teacher even mentioned to me that she couldnt believe the Die off were exactly verbatim what I sent to her in a photocopy from the Baker and Pangborn book about Autism biomed interventions. I did warn her that round two of die off will probably hit around jjan-Feb and sometimes lasts longer, but its worth it. Dylan has been off his supps for 2 days...hes been complaining of tummy paind and he threw everything up last nigh, so I am just letting him take it easy. his kidney functions tests are high because he doesnt drink enough from what his Dan said....which is totally true. If its not straight juice(not legal) he wont touch it, and as I said, hes fighting yeast so we cant do even diluted right now. He basically drinks water, and that is really rare now. He cannot tolerate citrus at all-lemons and limes and oranges make him throw up...too sour even with sweetner I think or too acidy. We are just taking a supplement break...but as a result he is really stimmy. Anyway, thanks for the note of hope. I hope you are staying safe and dry in the wake of the bad weather you guys are getting. Guest guest
I second Patty on keeping him home. We all know that the week of Christmas there is no learning going on. It would be a great time for you to do some stuff with him...make some crafts, go somewhere special, ect. Meleah Fed up with schools food demands -need advice!! Guest guest
Our school implemented this new health policy. I think anything that moves our schools toward providing healthier foods is a good thing, but the list of approved foods is a joke. Snackwells. How are all those artificial ingreds gonna help all the ADD/HD kids? Oreo 100's are another. ROFL. And the cafeteria still serves the same old junk but says it's healthier because the pizza is whole wheat crust. Anyone see Biggest Loser school edition a couple of weeks ago? That's the same crap they serve, but at least all my harping was acknowledged when my 9 yr old NT, after watching BL, agreed to start taking her lunch more often. She said, " Mom, you know the junk they showed? That's the same junk my school feeds me, I don't need that stuff. " Too bad it took a tv show. But at least it took! Guest guest
That is such a funny story! I have asked people to contact Starkist tuna and ask for skipjack & yellowfin tuna ONLY because that's supposed to be the safest tuna to eat. I contacted Starkist myself and told them we no longer eat tuna because of the mercury content, but if they started having only these fish and labeled as such we would begin eating again. I also mentioned the 1000's of families who have mecury poisoning and agree. The woman supposedly took down all my comments. The thing is, they can't all come from my address, we need people all over the nation to request. Debi --- In pecanbread , " Wizop Marilyn L.
