Guest guest
, I don't claim to know everything there is to know about probiotics but I do know that Elaine was very adverse to Bifido because it is not a community builder and has a tendency to overgrow. I am living proof that that is true. I took VSL#3 ( an illegal probiotic with bifido in it) and boy did I get sick. Threw me into a violent flare that I needed prednisone to get over. I am very leary about HFS employees or even owners giving advice like that in the store. They are not very well trained and only get training from companies that want to sell their product. They tend to be very unknowledgable about SCD as well. My Naturopathic Doctor ( whom I trust and is very knowledgable) still defers to me on many things because she knows I know SCD. She lets me investigate everything first before she ever lets me start taking any new product. Charlene UC 8 years SCD 6 years <>< Before I post my question, I want to clarify that it's NOT a challenge of the SCD probiotic theory, but I do want to know the history... Today I went to the HFS to see if I could get a legal probiotic locally. The owner has one brand that would be legal, but it is out until Monday. Then he was questioning me why in the world I would only want the lacto/acid strain as " it canibalizes all the other strains which is why it is not generally used alone ( & that's why they began adding the bifidus strains). " Is this belief why the manufacturer's began adding the bifidus strains? I have read some of you alluding to prior discussions with Elaine about this whole topic, but I can't find these discussions anywhere. Can someone fill me in? - --------------------------------- It's here! Your new message! Get new email alerts with the free Yahoo! Toolbar. Guest guest
Thanks for that insight. I did mean to mention that I do not give that much credit to a person's " nutritional authority " just because they own a HFS! This person told me he used to be work on the manufacturer side of supplements including probiotics/hense his knowledge. I am guessing it is because... 1) it is healthier (and as someone previously explained to me from this list -- it may be if you don't have a very sick gut that need to be completely re-educated) 2) it is not healthier -- but it improves the shelf life of the product 3) it is cheaper for them (are the other strains more or less fillers?) 4) everyone knows " more is better " 5) other So I'm sure Elaine has addressed this at some point & if anybody has that info, please pass it along. I saved the other recent post about strains and information was posted from the Lyrus file -- can anybody access these files? I couldn't seem to get past the log-in. - and Charlene Flikkema wrote: , I don't claim to know everything there is to know about probiotics but I do know that Elaine was very adverse to Bifido because it is not a community builder and has a tendency to overgrow. Mimi may be able to help you access the Lyris List. Elaine participated in their group discussions for about a year. Carol F.
Guest guest
Thank you, Charlene. In our almost 2 years dealing with it, UC does seem to be really tricky and sometimes very scary. But SCD is definitely helping our son and I am so glad you are doing better too. Hearing your story helps me know we're doing the right thing for him. We also pray he never gets as ill as he once was. > > , > > My experience with UC has been mixed. I am thankful to SCD for so many things and I will never go back to eating the way that I did. After 6 years, however, I am still incredibly sensitive and have to watch everything. I am not sure I will ever be entirely 100% but again, I won't compromise on SCD. UC can be incredibly difficult to deal with and can be very stubborn. I have finally found a good balance of supplements and food and I don't think I will venture too far from it. > > I am so thankful to be feeling so much better than I was though. Guest guest
Does anyone recommend a site/group which focuses only on UC and SCD?
