Guest guest
My dd is having testing done on Monday and needs to be on a clear diet tomorrow. I bought the SCD kosher gelatin (http://www.digestivewellness.com/itempage-1007-24-18-1542.html) but it doesn't come with directions. Anyone know how to get this to be a jello-like dessert? It comes in packets of 14 grams each. I bought legal orange extract as well, and my dd is hoping I can make orange jello, but I haven't got a clue (we never used gelatin before this, so I don't have anything to fall back on!). I've been searching and searching online but haven't found directions (probably b/c American products COME with directions....) Thanks, Ellen 9 y/o dd scd since 5/06 for crohn's

Here's the directions: Put 1/4 cup of cold water in a 1-quart bowl and sprinkle 1T (about two of your packets) of plain gelatin on top and let it soften. Stir in 3/4 cup of boiling water and honey " to taste " (I don't use any). Stir to mix well. Add one cup of fruit juice and stir again. If you want to put it in a mold, oil the mold and pour in your jello mixture. Chill until set. This makes 6 servings. Good luck, , mom to > > I bought legal orange extract as well, and my dd is hoping I can make > orange jello, but I haven't got a clue (we never used gelatin before > this, so I don't have anything to fall back on!). Guest guest
Hi Ellen, Can your daughter have red jello, or does she need to be on clear jello? If she can have red, I have figured out how to make a tasty rasberry gelatin, which you might be able to adapt to something clear. I developed this before my son started SCD so others on this list may be able to help in terms of what is and isn't legal: I'm quite new to the diet, so hope that frozen fruit is ok. Here's the recipe: 3 c white grape juice (you might be able to substitute apple cider for this) 1 10oz package frozen rasberries (you could make this without the berries if she can't have anything red for this test) 1/4 c honey 1 c water 1 - 2 packets gelatin (depends on how firm your daughter likes her gelatin, my son likes it loose. 1 packet, but others like it a bit firmer) Pot to boil the juice and berries glass bowl big enough to hold 5 cups fine mesh strainer Bring grape juice, rasberries and honey to a boil, simmer for 5 minutes. Pour water into glass bowl or container in which you'll make the gelatin. When rasberry mixture has 1 minute to go, sprinkle gelatin over the cold water and let it sit. Pour rasberry/juice mixture through strainer into the gelatin and stir until all the gelatin is dissolved. If you want you can press more of the rasberry mixture through the strainer, but make sure you use a different spoon to mix the gelatin and to press the rasberries or you'll get the seeds into the clear gelatin. Put the gelatin in the fridge. If you use just one packet, it takes overnight to set. If you use 2 it may be ready in 4-6 hours. I've substituted frozen blueberries and blackberries, but my son likes rasberries best. I've also tried lemons, (a recipe for lemon gelatin from epicurious.com) which is delicious but my son said that it made his stomach hurt. And I've tried with watermelon, which I would definitely not recommend. Good luck! I hope her test goes well.
