Guest guest
We went about two weeks ago to have a f/u consultation with the neurosurgeon at texas childrens hospital. We were incredibly nervous b/c we didn't know what exactly to expect. But shortly after we arrived we went in and spoke with him....the gentleman with " star band " took new measurements of layla's head and found a significant improvement in only 1 months time. After the neurosurgeon looked at the comparison of the measurements he told us that layla would not need a helmet after all. He also noticed a significant improvement in the measurements of layla's head and that the aggresive positioning and therapy has helped extremely. From that point he said just keep up with the therapy and the positioning and to f/u with him next year feb. and by then we should see a total change. We were extremely excited but we were also prepared for the possibilty of having to go the other way. But in the begining it wasn't easy the neuro wanted us to have her sleep completely on her left side so i took a really large beach towel and rolled it up like a twinkie and laid her on her left side at night and placed the towel behind her. Then i made a little pillow for her head about 1 inch thick for her head that way her spine would stay aligned with the rest of her body and sometimes i would put a little burp cloth between her legs. She would sleep like that for about 7 hrs of the night and then roll onto her back for the last 3-4 hours. So naturally after a couple of times she got used to sleeping on her side and i would go in and check on her through out the night and it also helped that we had a video baby monitor. Hopefully everyone else will soon recieve good news like we did. good luck jill jackson
