Guest guest
Hi, We are now onto day 3 of intro diet, my husband is not at all impressed-in fact the first day he went on a hunger strike,(I had a good laugh). He is progressing quickly- diareah day no 2 and he is now oggling all the recipes and wants me to order Lucy's Cook book!!! (He is looking forward to eating some nice food). I have warned him it will be a while for us to get to that stage -especially as me and my son have the chemical sensitivities. Question 1; My son refuses to eat the broth/soups and is preferring just eggs, chicken and beef. (we are dairy free) Does it matter that he won't eat the broth? He has been wonderful in accepting the diet- 2 years of failsafe deprivation has prepped him well, the only difference in this diet was taking out sugar, rice and potatoes. No BM s yet-he was extremely pale and nauseus with no energy and had hand flapping for the first time on day 2. Question2; Do you have to wait for a die off reaction (diareah etc) before you can proceed past intro even if it takes longer than 5 days to happen? Question 3; Do you have to have a 'normal' BM before going to next stage? I am concerned this is not going to happen for me as 'normal' is so complicated and historically elusive. I rely on 40mg codeine to keep me 'normal'. Is SCDnormal without codeine? Question 4: I am just finishing off a course of antibiotics for unrinary tract infection. How will taking antibiotics during the intro diet effect it? Question 5: I take panadol and codeine together for daily headaches (2-4 per day). Any suggestions as to how I can avoid the starch in the panadol? Or will it not matter too much? I don't know that I should go 'cold turkey' on them as well-I think it might be too much all at once. Any suggestions? Question 6; Is there an enzyme that can help digest sulhpur so I can eat eggs? Guest guest
It is fine if your son doesn't want to eat all of the foods on the intro diet. That is simply the list to choose from, but it isn't required to eat each food on the list. Consider the hand flapping a die off reaction. Changes in behavior for the worse are common die off reactions. I'm concerned that your son hasn't had a BM since starting the diet. This is day three, you say, so you need to get his bowels moving. Please try Elaine's constepation protocall found on the BTVC web site. I think that Grammy posted it early this evening, too, for another person whose son hasn't had a BM in several days. If he still doesn't go in the next day, let us know so someone can help you. You shouldn't stay on the intro diet for more than five days. If you still have diharea after five days, you do need to add in more pealed, deseeded, cooked veggies. Check out the stages chart in the food prep section of pecanbread.com. It will probably be a while before you can enjoy some of the better SCD foods...at least that was my experience. Even though we had several fruits and veggies to choose from along with meat and dairy, I just had a hard time adjusting to the cooking style. I didn't have an SCD cookbook though, so maybe that will help you. Just don't rush trying to add in new foods just so you can enjoy more variety. What's important is to let your body heal. Guest guest
Dear Sheila and Robin, Thanks for your advice. I used a suppository on Tris this morning, resulted in a well formed stool but nothing since. Will repeat again tommorrow if he doesn't open b's. I also allowed him some carrot curls today D#4 as he has lost 3kgs in 3 days and was not really wanting to eat at all. Once he got the curls he sparked up a bit and ate some eggs, rissoles and steak through the day. He was very pale and fatigued again today and layed and played on his bed all day. Tonight I gave him half a very ripe banana and some stewed pears with a drizzle of honey (not sure if honey was ok for d#4?) I hope the fibre helps him a bit-am reluctant to go for prunes or even the muffins (yet) due to his chemical sensitivities. There is a lot of salicylates in almonds so am wary of introducing the flours (cashews have amines and are extremely expensive) Aside from that I don't know where to source nut flours yet. I also have a problem; on day 3 I had one bout of diareah, days 1,2 & 4 no bm's. When my b's are over stimulated ie ongoing diareah, they seem to go into shock and go to sleep for a few days (no pain or wind). I am actually feeling great which I know I won't be when my bowels start working again. Whenever I have a dramatic change in diet it usually takes 2 weeks for my b's to react which makes it hard to know if I can tolerate a food (have to keep eating it for 2 weeks!) Should I proceed as normal or force the issue? I know I still have diareah and adding more laxative type stimulants or fibre has, in the past, just made it worse. Do you think I should try colonic irrigation (although I have tried them before and still nothing comes out) Any suggestions? None of us have had any bad wind- I am thinking that is not good?
