Guest guest
Dear Becky, Try to relax. I know this is easier said that done. This transition is going to be difficult. I won't lie to you. For us the first month was the worse. Die off symptoms can cause joints and legs to ache. It can cause flu like symptoms. From my experience when an ASD child is uncomfortable or not feeling well this will increase stimming behavior. All sorts of behaviors come out of no where. I would suggest putting him in a warm tub with a small box of Epsom salts, filled as high as you can. Not leaving him unattended, of course. Soak for as long as he is willing. This will absorb the toxins. Also make sure that he drinks plenty of water to flush his system. This will help with the leg pains if die off toxins are causing his muscles to hurt. You can also give him activated charcoal to soak up the toxins of " die off " . I like the Activated Charcoal capsules. Give whole if he can swallow them. Some young kids can. If not mix it in juice. Or see if he will take it with a bit of honey. Give activated charcoal one hour before and one hour after meals. If this does not help, try Tylenol suppositories. You can get them from your pharmacist without a prescription. But you may want to hold off on pain meds unless necessary, because this only adds to the detoxing load of the liver. During die off it is already high. WE avoided this. I am glad that you noticed that MOTRIN has corn syrup in it. For us this tiny bit was a problem. This could be keeping you guys from moving forward. Read all your labels, Your milk, meat, juice, supplements EVERYTHING> Illegals are sneaky from our experience. The thing about phenols is a tricky one. Please read page 57 (as well as the entire chapter on autism). Elaine explains about different proteins causing allergies/sensitivities. From our experience, as the bad gut flora dies the bodies ability to deal with phenols can become more compromised. Causing red cheeks, red ears and strange behaviors. But remember that as the intestines heals on the SCDiet the gut flora will go back to normalcy. This will lesson the livers toxin load, and allow foods that are high in phenols to nolonger be a problem. Some use " No Phenol " during this transition. It is a enzyme found under supplements at www.pecanbread.com<http://www.pecanbread.com/> If you are like us you will find that you may not need it. The more you practice SCD by the book and with 100% conviction, the faster the gut will heal. The faster these strange allergies/sensitivities will vanish. For us this meant using the goat yogurt, taking the acidophilus and eating everything peeled and cooked. We are still avoiding foods that are hard to digest. There are " stages " under food preparation on the pecan bread web page too. This can show you what foods are easier than others to digest. These are only guidelines, created by other mom's. When we have had innocent errors and infractions we have revisited Introductory diet for two days. Like we did many times.....re-read chapter 9 and 10....too. You may want to go back to introductory diet for two days now that you discovered the infraction. I know that this is not fun starting over, but you will be doing his behavior and yourself a favor in the long run. Hope this helps you, Antoinette and (both cd) parents to three (cd, ibd, add, adhd, pdd/autism and more) SCD 2/
