Guest guest
Hey all: I got home from the hospital on Thursday and on Friday my arm ached so bad I could not stand it. Home health came out pulled my PICC line (what else is new) and they had an awful time getting it out. Long story short i have developed a horrible case of thrombophlebitis., i.e. a blood clot and inflammation in the vein. I thought pancreatitis hurt but this is running a close second. Right now it is feeling a lot better so I can type this. They did an ultrasound the day before I came home to make sure there was no clot because my arm hurt so bad. They wanted to leave the PICC in for a week " just in case " as you all know the vein problems I have getting a line. Didn't work and all this developed in two days. I spent last night in the emergency room writhing and they found a partially occluding clot. Not dangerous where it is. He gave me one shot in the stomach of a blood thinner....Lovenox that I have had before to boost this thing along. I cannot tell you how much Percocet I have taken in the last three days. I am at my wits end because I want to go back to ton but I WILL NOT go without some kind of venous access and let them poke at me. When I say there is nothing good, there is nothing good. All this poking is what is causing the inflammation and the PICCs are now causing blood clots. I had one in the other arm in November. Whining is not my usual thing but I am whining and wallowing tonight! Sorry. I have had enough of it and am ready to just give up. If any of you nurses out there have anything positive to say about this let me know. O yes this was what htey call a " midline " PICC line which only goes to the shoulder because I can't have anything ever again that goes down into the chest cavity. Apparently the midline things cause all kinds of problems. Oh yeah not to mention the battle and screaming fight I had to get into with the discharge planner, home health and the idiot nurse who gave me the wrong information and tried to slide her but out of the room when she got caught. Thats another story I need to tell but I can't type it all right now. Thats for later. That is one Chrissy you need to hear as I need some advice on how to handle that kind of stuff again. The only thing it did for me is make me hurt, but I got my point across and this nurse got caught. Sorry for all the whining.
