I think that it is fine to give him the concentrated prune juice each day until

he starts to establish regular bowel habits.

constipation started back - prune juice ok to get it

moving?????

I have simmered down some prune juice into a sauce and given a couple

of tablepoons in my son's drink to help with constipation. I did this

last week and he had to have about 4 doses to get it moving (we were

working on day 4 with only about 1/2 cup for all 4 days). Now again

he is starting to back up again. My prune juice is from Walmart and

says " 100 percent prune juice, contains no preservatives, no added

sugar and nothing artificial " Is it ok to continue this routine or

are there other solutions to keeping him regular? We started the diet

Nov 17th, had major infractions at christmas and started over Jan 2

with intro. His pooh isn't regulizing (is that a word) like it did

the first time around on this diet. His pooh was perfect before his

major infractions (which were pizza, a few cookies and raw fruit). No

diarreha prior to diet- constipation was the issue.

Becky,

Try the Electrolyte Drink, too.... you can mix it up and mix some of it into

his other drink. Are you giving him a magnesium supplement? Magnesium citrate

or magnesium oxide have laxative effects.

How much of the electrolyte drink do you give and how often. Can I give that

in conjunction with the prune syrup? He gets the epsom salt baths most nights.

This second time starting over and re-doing the diet, his die off symptoms don't

seem that bad so we don't do them everyday. But actual magnesium supplements we

don't give. The DAN doc said she thought he would be getting enough in his

daily vitamin. He didn't have them (mag. supplements) before and his pooh

normalized, so that is what is confusing me more.

I think you can go ahead and give him as much as he will accept... I wouldn't be

surprised if he doesn't like the taste much, though. You might just try to get a

few sips in, and then some drinks of his other juice or whatever.... or try to

mix some of it into his other drink. I think the idea behind it is mostly as a

remedy for dehyrdration.... but one of our other list members pointed out that

it relieved her constipation when nothing else would. So, use as needed, I

guess.

Sadly, when someone starts SCD, then slips off the wagon with infractions,

whatever bad guys that were still down there as sort of " last holdouts " are ever

stronger now, and resistant. They are probably laying bets right now that

infractions will be coming soon to sustain them..... so, that might account for

everything taking longer this time. I'm not sure.
