Guest guest
Heidi - thanks for the information regarding the difference between Creon and Lipram. I was told by my surgeon at my last visit with him 12/28 that since I had the whipple (11/24) and my problem is fixed, I no longer need to take pancreatic enzymes after another month of healing the pancreas. I am still taking Creon 20 once each meal, and am trying to find out if I can stop. I don't really notice a difference - maybe if I stop them, I will. LOL! Guest guest
I really like the AFP-peptizide from Houston's. It doesn't have the cellulose filler and is easier on us. I think the filler is rice bran oil which is legal also. Jenn L enzymes any favourites? I used to use Houston Enzymes (chewables) since my son cannot swallow pill. They are not legal (fructose) in the chewables. Guest guest
They are both legal, but I think that Isogest is better. We just started it today. I called Kirkman before ordering just to check on the difference between the two. The Isogest has the DPPIV in it as well as the other enzymes for digesting other foods. It's just a more complete enzyme. Meleah Enzymes Is the Kirkman Enzyme Complete DPPIV capsules any good and legal? Which is better Isogest or the above. Guest guest
I like the Kirkman enzymes if you don't have a problem with yeast. Although, one may use them later on with good effect. The have cellulose in them which can cause yeast overgrowth. For beginners, use the enzymedica lacto or if you're not very sensitive you could use the Houston's enzymes. Let me know if you'd like to try the Kirkman's enzymes as I have lots to share. Jenn L Enzymes Is the Kirkman Enzyme Complete DPPIV capsules any good and legal? Which is better Isogest or the above. Guest guest
, I just looked at the Kirkman web site, but didn't see anything called Prozyme. My first question would be...are you sure that the one you chose is SCD legal? Not all of their digestive enzymes are, so you have to read the ingredient list carefully. Their staff is also SCD savvy, and can tell you if the particular product that you're considering is legal. It is also recommended that a person start slowly when introducing enzymes. You should start with 1/4 or 1/2 capsule first. It does sound like he's moving in the right direction if his stools are no longer green, less sandy, ect. How many days/weeks has he been SCD? What foods is he eating again? Meleah Enzymes Hello, I sprinkled a capsule of prozyme from Kirkman's on Benito's food today and 1.5 hrs later he was very aggressive and hyper. He has had nothing different or new. Just the enzymes. Do I have to give him enzymes for his yeast or should I just be patient and wait for SCD work? I was reading in the posts about Candex etc. I still don't fully understand what enzymes for what food. But...I know they do not agree with Benito. He is doing great with the carrot juice and garlic, 1/4 tsp goat yogurt, and 2 scdopholus' a day. His poop is still completely unformed and a little gritty but brown not green. Guest guest
The prozymes are from GI Prohealth not Kirkman's.....sorry. They have Cellulous, Vcaps, water and l-leucin. They are a comprehensive enzyme supplement. He is eating: Butternut squash or acorn squash in squash buttons sweetened with pear sauce. Pearsauce, pear juice (homemade/from cooked pears for pearsauce) bison, pork, chicken, greenbeans (string bean style), ripe bananas, carrot juice with garlic, 1/4 tsp dripped goat yogurt, SCdopholus, homemade mayo sometimes. That is it. He did not tolerate carrots or spinach. I was making the goat yogurt in the oven and about 1 week ago got a yogurt maker....I then realized that the yogurt I was giving him was substandard as I believe the live bacteria was killed so there was still lactose in it. From that point that I was giving him the bad goat yogurt on....his bowels have been unformed, green sometimes, gritty and strange things passing through. Before that his stools were well formed but very stinky and dark but about 6 of them a day. That lasted about 10 days. Now there is around 3 or 4 unformed, practically pasty, gritty, etc...... We have been on SCD since Feb 14, 2007. Thanks for any help, Hinojosa 3yr old boy, ASD, Began SCD Feb 14, 2007 Enzymes Hello, I sprinkled a capsule of prozyme from Kirkman's on Benito's food today and 1.5 hrs later he was very aggressive and hyper. Guest guest
Well, the food selections all look fine. I definitely agree that you need to start with just a small amount of the capsule for the enzymes. I'd just watch the next few days, and keep us posted on what happens. Guest guest
, We have struggled with the yogurt ourselves. There are suggestions on the board and by moderators to drip the yogurt. I found our Daughter Ella could tolerate the goat yogurt (GI PRO starter PROgurt) after it was dripped thoroughly and completely. We put it into a gold plated coffee filter in a plastic bag and drip it in the fridge for a couple of days first before we feed it to her. I stir it occasionally. I just leave it in the coffee filter at all times and after 4-5 days it seems she can even tolerate more. It has much less of a shiny look to it and much thicker. Even a little bit of that liquid seems to react with her. I dig out the yogurt at the bottom of the filter where its been able to drip the best when I feed it to her. The " whey " liquid part has the galactose in it and even the small amount of left over lactose. I will also ferment the yogurt for 30 hours to attempt to have all the lactose eaten up by the lovely critters. You might really try dripping the yogurt for a long long time first. Then doing the slow and go method which your probably already doing. Ella has tested positive for an alergy to dairy but not to casein, or cheese. Brent Father of Ella age5 SCDiet 10/06 > > Today Benito had one poop, the description is easy....canned chili. The yellowish kind. Today, I sprinkled 1/4 of the contents of the capsule of prozyme and he seemed fine. I hate to say it but I think the goat yogurt is the culprit. He is very hyper and aggressive and runs into things including me.....he gave his father a black eye with a head butt......and by the way...this is no accident on my son's part. The only thing I can think of since the poops became loose and diarrhea started and the aggression started up again is since I have had him on the goat yogurt. I have removed everything else. The yogurt is the one common denominator. It just kills me cause I know that stuff can help but I guess not yet. > > Thanks for any suggestions or comments. Guest guest
Hey , Could this be more die-off due to the goat yogurt and a good thing in the long run? Just wondering. My son always gets more hyper and aggressive with yeast. Trish, mom to Aidan 3.7 ASD, SCD 2 mths+ > > Today Benito had one poop, the description is easy....canned chili. The yellowish kind. Guest guest
Neiza, Primal Defense is a probiotic product that is illegal on SCD. It probably contains iron because some of the plants and seaweed or algae it's made of have iron in them, naturally. We don't have to avoid iron containing FOODS, it's just supplemental, elemental iron that can feed gut pathogens. Primal Defense is illegal for other reasons.... we can't use seaweeds and/or algae.... and a number of other bacterial strains that are added to that product are illegal. Sorry. Patti Enzymes Hi All, I read that enzymes are good to give for gut problems. A lady from another group suggested 'Primal defense' and it sounds great. However, it does have iron in it and I thought we couldnt use iron .. PLease advise Thanks Neiza Nunez
Guest guest
i've been all over Pecanbread this morning, and I still don't know exactly what you might use enzymes for. Is it to counteract the affects of an illegal, or something you would give regularly to aid digestion? Help! Teena
Guest guest
I can only say that my husband took my son's enzymes one time, ate a meal that he has often eaten with absolutely no trouble, and had severe diharea about 30 minutes later. I don't know if it was due to the enzymes because I couldn't get him to try them again, but it was certainly odd. I wonder if that was the reason for the diharea.
