Guest guest
Please post all foods and how they are prepared as well as supps for us to help you optimally. Thanks. Meleah A success story - but would like to darken stools Hi all, my son's doing very well on SCD. It has totally transformed him. He's still very Autistic, but so much healthier and more comfortable. Screaming fits have stopped. Still looking for improvement however. As we started on some quite advanced foods (muffins with nuts), my son's poops are more formed but still quite pale. Could this be a sign that he is not having enough specific Carbs, as I know you get pale poops on the Atkins diet.. Please advise if you can help..? carolfrilegh wrote: > > I understand. Guest guest
You did not say how long he's been on SCD. Pale stools... I would go look at this link: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/pale_stool.htm Looks like it's common with celiac disease, which just might mean that he hasn't been on SCD long enough yet for true healing. BUT, it can also be from some conditions that involve the liver and gallbladder, so it might be good to check this out further. If I were you, I would take a step back from the advanced foods. If you're using whole or chopped nuts, I would pull back to finely ground nut flour. If you're using any raw foods, I would go back to cooked foods for a while. Let us know how long he's been on the diet. It would be good if everyone signed their messages with how long on SCD. Guest guest
Thanks so much. My son has been on the diet for a week (and we put him on advanced foods after 3 days (muffins) because he has been very ill and thin, and was just not eating, so we gave him anything he would eat, muffins. As he gets the sweetness from the muffins, he's given up on cooked fruit (less of a kick). So he has made great progress, slept through night, self-injurious bruises have disappeared. So we've come on great, but stools are still pale, and he looks pretty pale. At the moment all he'll eat is muffins (and fish oil that we syringe in mouth). Muffins are made from nut flour, butter, egg, banana.. Is there a foodgroup I really need to push in order to balance out the diet? , father to Jack SCD for 1 week. It is not recommended to introduce nut flour for many weeks. After three days of the intro diet ist was time tointroduce other foods.here is a suggested schedule for those foods most easily digested. You do not have to follow it exactly. http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html Also read : http://www.pecanbread.com/new/overcome1.html CarolF. Guest guest
Well, I don't see ANY vegetables. Those are essential and yes, I think you need to find a way to push them. Now... before you tell me " he won't eat vegetables " , I'll just tell you that is very common in these kids. If I had a nickel for every parent that said that as they started SCD..... only to later be shocked and delighted to see them readily eating veggies a few weeks later.... I'd have a nice nest egg. You can cook and puree vegetables.... butternut squash is a good choice.... and mix a small amount into the muffins. If you start small and increase the amount gradually, he will not even notice. Eventually, you may be able to add a small amount of pureed green beans, or even spinich. Remember, the key is to start with a TINY amount. Personally, I feel you can keep using the finely ground nut FLOUR for the muffins, as long as he doesn't have really loose stools. If he did, I would suggest pulling back on that and using nut butter in it's place. Please investigate some of the " sneaky " recipes on www.pecanbread.com .... chicken cupcakes, sneaky veggie pancakes. These are other ways you can sneak vegetables in for a kid who normally wouldn't touch them. As time goes by, and as he feels better, he may surprise you and eat things you've never imagined he would. Since he's only been on SCD for one week, I expect you will see much continued improvement.
