Here in the DC area, we have the option of StarBand, Hanger, and Cranial Tech. We ended up going with Hanger and have been pleased so far. It is a little bigger than CT's (Starband and Hanger are pretty much the exact same band) but we will only need one helmet vs 2 at CT which is nice since insurance won't cover the band for us. My son got his at 6 1/2 months on June 17 and will hit the 4 month next week. We've had no troubles with the band and my son adjusted to it very well even through the major heat we had here.

Good luck with the process and I hope everything turns out as you expect. As long as your orthotist is experienced you should have no troubles.

We're in Columbus, OH and Hanger is the only local place I can find that does helmets to treat plagiocephaly. My son (almost 6 mos) was evaluated as mild/moderate on both plagio AND brachycephaly. We're waiting to see if insurance is going to cover. I want to do it regardless of whether they cover; my husband is on the fence. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about Hanger and the product they make? I really liked the guy who did the eval. He was very low-pressure and objective.

No problem. Again good luck with the process. It's almost been 4 months for us, which has actually flown by! I'm sure your baby will do great!

My 7 month old son has been in his Hanger band for 2.5 months now. He has done well with it, except for trying to pull it off now. His plagio went from 10mm to 0mm in 2 months of part time wear. The bulge on his right side forehead is gone (really, the left side just caught up with it so it actually looks like the bulge is gone but really both sides bulge now). In fact, just last night my husband mentioned how "pronounced" his forehead looked. From the side, it looks like his forehead bulges out further than the rest of his face. We are going to continue with wearing it as long as possible, even though he is down to a 0mm, due to the continued flatness on the back right side. I have been very happy with Hanger. It is in my town of Greenville, NC. The closest CT was 4 hours away, which is

where I originally wanted to go. I didn't think we could afford the travel expenses and didn't want to be on the road for 8 hours a day. My orthotist is great. He has been understanding with the problem I've had with my husband not wanting my son to wear the helmet and has been very patient with our "part-time wear." He seems to be willing to work with us as long as it takes to get his head "straight". Good Luck with whoever you decide to go with.

We are from South Carolina and we used Hanger here, we were in Ohio visiting

family when my son first got his helmet when he developed a major red mark, we

took him to the Hanger office in Columbus and they were GREAT. The whole

process with Hanger has been great, I love them, here in SC or there in Ohio, we

had a very good experience with them. Plus all we had to pay out of pocket was

$300, no co pay every visit or anything, not even when we were up there. You

will be pleased with them. I would definately do the helmet, it was well worth

it. Good luck.
