I would go ahead and increase the yogurt a bit, but my personal opinion is to

stay on stage one foods for maybe another week before gradually trying the stage

two foods. I was very cautious with iel in the first six months of SCD,

and it served us well. We'll have been SCD for a year this May 1st, and

iel has made such incredible progress with SCD as his base line, and the

biomedical interventions that we've used. We stayed pretty much at stage one

for about two or three months with just one or two stage two foods. Not saying

that is what everyone should do. That was just what I did because I wanted to

be safer rather than sorrier, and I was very nervous that I wouldn't notice a

bad reaction. I'm actually glad I did because in the past two months I started

introducing raw fruits and veggies. I saw no stool or behavior signs, but his

lab work came back with disbiosis. Now, I will admit that I had really slacked

off as well because I was in my first trimester, and feeling awful. I didn't

have lots of SCD foods premade to be ready when the nausia hit me, and I gave

him a fair amount of illegals because of it. I know that definitely contributed

to the disbiosis, but I also have gone back to all pealed, seeded, and cooked

fruits and veggies to get things under control. Anyway, just thinking that I

was glad that I moved extra slowly because we have had such success.

when to start Stage 2

We've had our son on the diet for over a month, but didn't start with the

starter diet

so we went back a week and a half ago and did the starter diet and are now on

stage 1

along with small amounts of goat yogurt.

The first few days had some signs of bad behaviors and agressions, but

has since

mellowed out, still stimmy like he was before he started the diet, and has a

healthier look

and his stool is brown and firm, which we have never had consistantly.

Since he seems to be handling everything okay does it make since to start

including some

of the foods from stage 2 and increasing his yogurt intake?

Thanks, Jon and

Meleah,

I have a question about your advice to increase the yogurt. I'm very new at

this. My son started SCD March 2 (small amt. of legal made goat yogurt 2 wks

later). His autistic behavior worsened right after the yogurt and I couldn't

figure out what was wrong. He was very strictly following SCD and had this great

yogurt.

Then I happened to call GI Pro Health about when my back ordered enzymes would

come in and talked with a very nice nurse (nurse practitioner? not sure) there

that sees autistic kids in her practice. Sorry I don't remember her name.

Anyway, she said that her and Elaine had a conversation about 'autistic kids and

dairy' and they felt like around 3 months needed to pass (on SCD) before

introducing any form of dairy, even the yogurt. Do you or anyone else know about

this? I did take my son off the yogurt for now.

I've never heard about a 3 month mark before trying dairy. We started goat

yogurt at about four weeks, and did fine. The problems you saw may have been

die off. Mimi is definitely more versed in this than I.

Thank you, we'll hold off, he loves almond butter so much we were hoping to

bring that

back, but we'll wait a while longer.

Thanks,
