Guest guest
Hal, I heard on channel 3 news, out of Hartford, that a documentary will be filmed in Norwich regarding Benedict Arnold and the fact that maybe he was not a traitor. It will be interesting to see how they go about trying to prove that. Do you know much about it? I didn't catch who is making the documentary. Is it a local filmmaker? Guest guest
Hi: This topic, although it has nothing to do with CF, is very interesting. So DELETE if you are not interested. Benedict Arnold was born here in Norwich, CT. Arnold is buried in England. He was a traitor. A personal friend who was bounced out of high school for arguing with his history teacher that Arnold was not a traitor has been on a crusade for years to rehabilitate him. Although he never studied history or went to college, the man is trying to establish Arnold as a hero, and that Washington was not the first president. It must have been those chads in Florida even way back then. A documentary was made here in Norwich with local " talent " playing various roles in a mock trial of Arnold several years ago. It emphasized that Arnold won the Revolutionary War (a misnomer.it was not a revolution) all by himself, and as his wife seduced him into becoming a traitor, it really wasn't his fault. She was about half his age (and no Viagra in those days). Arnold tried to capture Quebec and lost most of his troops in the ill fated adventure. He, like Washington, submitted bogus expenses for reimbursement. He did do a masterful job at Saratoga. However, as he wasn't promoted, to get revenge, he tried to sell the British the plans to West Point, but his accomplice got caught. Arnold beat it to England, and lived in infamy there.even the Brits are not fond of traitors. Arnold has entered into a state of myth, so whatever one wants to believe there is myth readily available to support the thesis. Not to brag but for informational purposes, I was awarded honors in an NDEA graduate program in U.S. History at UConn. What that means is I know enough history to know I don't know enough history. It goes back to my theory that after two beers, everyone becomes an expert on everything. Guest guest
Hi: I co-authored a two volume world history book for high school general students. My friend who wrote part of it quoted Marx (not Harpo) and some parents thought it was he who was advocating Marxism without realizing it was a quote. Well read intellectual Americans, obviously. We got so much flack the quote was deleted by the publisher in the second edition. We refused to write another edition, so that ended my career as a historian. I started to write my autobiography when I first retired in 1990, but it took 86 pages to get me to the first grade as I had already lived in four different cities and it was during the beginning of the Great Depression. I figured that no sane person would be interested, and quit. Since then, I have lived in thirteen different cities (one step ahead of creditors no doubt) and there have been thirteen presidents during my lifetime. Authors do better with their biographies.
