Guest guest
My son's culture came back showing he has Aspergillus. I know this topic has been discussed before but I have a few questions I'd appreciate so help with. He is four years old and inhaling tea tree oil mist isn't his thing right now. I picked up a little crock pot to use in his room at night and this is where my questions come in. 1. How many drops of tea tree oil have others been using when doing the " crock pot " method? 2. Have you been letting the crock pot run all night or just for a few hours? 3. Do you put the crock pot near the bed or assume that as long as the room smells like tea tree oil, he will inhale sufficient amounts to do the job? 4. How many times a week do you do this? My other question pertains to magnesium supplements. I found a compounding pharmacy in our area that can make a liquid magnesium supplement for us (since Matt doesn't swallow pills yet and doesn't eat " gummy bear " textures - we're still dealing with texture issues as a result of being intubated very early in life). The pharmacy needs a prescription from the CF Clinic, though, and our nutritionist is willing to work with us on doing this. The magnesium concerns are not something our clinic has not worked with a lot but she is willing to do some research. I'm just curious to see how much others are supplementing to their young ones. I'm not exactly comfortable assuming that the RDA quantity is enough considering he does not eat a balance diet at all. If you all wouldn't mind sharing with me what you are doing it will give me a little guidance when I talk to the nutritionist again. Thanks in advance for your input! Sincerely, R, mom to Matt, 4 with CF and really into trains & planes
Guest guest
, Please let your nutritionist or doctor which magnesium type you want them to use. Compounding pharmacies must follow doctor's orders, and if doctors doesn't know the differences in magnesium types, they might ask pharmacists for the most common type -- and if the pharmacist says, " magnesium oxide, " then the doctor might go with that instead of doing his/her homework. Remember, you don't want magnesium salts, as this could result in loose stools, making Mg deficiency worse. After all, ' Milk of Magnesia -- the old time panacea for constipation -- is simply 400 mg. magnesium oxide per teaspoon. Over a year ago, I checked with a couple compounding pharmacies (one was Bev's CF pharmacy). Each compounding pharmacy told me they'd have to make the 'script based on doctor's recommendation. When I asked about magnesium creams and how you could determine a " mg " dose, they told me that they'd mix the magnesium with a carrier cream, then likely put it into premeasured syringes. Then you'd just squirt out so many cc's to get the dose and rub the cream into the skin. For those who have aversions to swallowing pills, you can try the following: 1) crush Solgar magnesium glycinate into a powder to add to fruit smoothies, fruit sauces, warm cereals or into a feeding tube. Dawn (mom of Patti) crushes the Solgar tablets and mixes it with grape juice and confectioner's sugar to form a paste; she says Patti doesn't have a problem eating this to get her magnesium. 2) you can make your own magnesium creams and lotions (I've got a recipe around here somewhere) 3) you can soak in a warm tub of epsom salts for about 20 minutes (add a few drops tea tree oil for added benefit to lungs and sinuses in the steamy bath -- just don't let little ones splash or drink the bath water.). Magnesium *is* absorbed through the skin and I've seen a couple references showing that after soaking for 20 minutes in epsom salts (magnesium sulphate), magnesium levels were measurably elevated. As for the crock pot and TTO, I'd put it as near the head of the bed as possible -- but make sure it's out of reach of curious little hands and that pets don't accidently mistake it for drinking water. You could also put a drop or two on a cotton ball and wave it under the nose for as long as they'll sit still for it. Good luck with the aspergillus culture. I was heartbroken when cultured it. I'm glad we got rid of it so quickly! Kim > My son's culture came back showing he has Aspergillus. I know this topic has been discussed before but I have a few questions I'd appreciate so help with. Guest guest
Omg... I just now went back to read my response to . Heck, I do know proper grammar but no one would know it by my post! And it took forever for me to write my response -- I kept backspacing and rewriting and backspacing some more because I wanted to be sure I didn't mess up. I wrote it while heavily influnced by massive doses of ibuprofen! Yesterday on the way home from work, I was striding along and rammed my left foot into the cement in the uneven sidewalk, crashing chin down right to the cement. The gaping hole under my chin wouldn't stop bleeding so I ended up in the ER where they superglued my chin wound and after an x-ray, told me I broke a bone in my foot. But that's *not* stopping me from flying to Phoenix tomorrow morning for six days of pampering in the sun! Sorry for the awkward post, . But I duz no how 2 speak and spel.
