Guest guest
Hi, I just started my 7 year old son who has autism on this diet. He has been gf/cf/sf for 3-4 years. In that time he has consumed way too many carbs and has yeast issues. This weekend I was going to start SCD and we all ended up with the flu and my son would not eat after that so I decided that he already went 2 days with no carbs, so I started the diet immediately with him. I am giving him chicken broth with shredded chicken, and cut carrots. He has ate lettuce, apple slices and drink gatorade, which I am now fading him to water mixed with sparkling water and will then fade out the sparkling water. (My son has never drank pure water before, so that will be a change as well). I am also giving him pieces of ham. Any suggestions of other foods that I can give?? Also, am I giving some foods too soon?? If so, the reason I am giving him some of these advance foods is so he will eat something and once he is eatting everything I offer then I will fade out the advance and start with the starter foods. Does that make sense? Any suggestions would be great. Also, can I give his diflucan and probiotics?? Thanks a bunch, Jen W in Ohio
Guest guest
Welcome to the group. What brand of probiotics do you use? Certainly, probiotics are recommended, but you want to make sure that all of your meds and supps are SCD compliant...if at all possible. My personal opinion is to stop the RX antifungal, and see what kind of results you get to combat his yeast issue simply by using SCD. There are also great natural antifungals to try if he needs that extra help. Many find that when they use an RX antifungal, the yeast comes back quickly and much heartier once the RX is stopped. You definitely have some foods in his diet that are more advanced. All fruits and veggies should be pealed, seeded, and well cooked at this early stage in the game. A helpful source for knowing the order of foods most easily digest in the " after the intro " chart found on pecanbread.com under the " food preparation " section. You'll want to make sure that absolutely everything he is drinking and eating is SCD legal, and prepared properly for his little system to digest it easily. This will ensure that his body can fight off the yeast and heal with the best chances. The broth with chicken and carrots is certainly a good place to start(homemade broth, right?). Certainly, feel free to run by any supps or meds that he is taking if you have a question about ingredients in them being acceptable. Meleah Just started......I have questions???
