Guest guest
Has anyone had any luck with giving themselves or their child Valerian to help with sleep? No problems getting to sleep but staying asleep and sleeping through the night has never been successful. Melatonin (legal or not) only helps with getting to sleep. In addition, we're keeping a much more detailed journal about what foods he's eating and the possible sleep/no sleep link. Grape juice? Orange juice? Citrus fruits? Thanks for any thoughts --------------------------------- TV dinner still cooling? Check out " Tonight's Picks " on Yahoo! TV.

Guest guest
Hi Robin, No. We've stopped all nut butters, flour about 10 days ago. Also stopped all dairy. robin wrote: What about nut butter or flour? Giving him any of that stuff? Melatonin (legal or >not) only helps with getting to sleep. My son is has sleep issues as well and we finally had to resort to using a clonidine patch at night. We give him 2-3 mg of melatonin to help him fall asleep and then, once his asleep, we place the clonidine patch on his back. We then remove the patch in the morning when he wakes up. Clonidine is available by prescription and is actually a blood pressure med but it makes people drowsy. You replace the patch every 7 days. It has been a lifesaver for us because my son used to wake up like clockwork around 1 am and would usually stay awake until 5-6 am and then would pass out again. Not good for us or him. The patch is especially powerful the first 2-3 days. IN fact, my son will generally have what we call a " clonidine hangover " the next day after placing a new patch. He will be very tired and out of it the next day therefore I suggest you start a new patch on a Friday or Saturday so he is not hung over for school or whatever the next day. I am not thrilled with medicating my 4 year old for sleep but you reach a point where it becomes necessary. Good luck should you decide to go this route.
