I can't really tell from the way your wrote this, but are you now giving him mag

citrate for his constipation? If so, that MIGHT have been what caused him the

insomnia.... if you gave it right before bed. It does that to me! I had to

switch to magnesium glycinate. So if you need the laxative effect of the

citrate, you may need to give it in the morning only. Let me know if you think

it could be related to that.... I can explain more about why that happens with

mag citrate.

If you really need to give something for fever, you can use plain Tylenol or

Motrin tablets, cut or split to the correct dosage.... ground up and mixed in

applesauce or honey. You need to know exactly what your childs dose would be in

milligrams. For example, my daughter is around 75 lbs, so she gets exactly half

of an adult dose. I buy adult REGULAR strength Tylenol and give her ONE

tablet.... ground up in applesauce. She is allergic to Ibuprofen, so we have to

use Tylenol.

With that said, I will just add that I personally do not treat every fever.....

I let them run unless they go above 103. Fever is trying to do a job in the

body.... burning out the bad guys. Suppressing fevers of 101 to 102 degrees and

even higher, really doesn't let the immune system kick in and respond

appropriately. Fever makes a kid feel miserable, but I believe in letting

fevers work. You can use cool, wet rags to the forehead and insides of

wrists.... tepid baths, etc.... to cool a kid down. Drinking fluids is a must,

of course.

For congestion, I do nasal irrigation with salt water. Good old Vicks Vap-O-Rub

rubbed on the chest works just as well as it did when I was a kiddo in the late

1950's.

For coughs, honey and ginger. You mix 1/4 tsp of dried ginger (the kind you

bake with) into 2 Tablespoons of honey. Mix well...... give 1/2 tsp or more,

right off the spoon, as needed. Best remedy there is for a croupy cough! None

of the over the counter cough syrups really work. You can mix a spoonful of

this into hot water, add a squirt of fresh lemon juice and you have a perfect

" Sick Kid Tea " .

We do see fever and sometimes stuffy noses with SCD die-off in the very

beginning. Are you sure the symptoms are an actual viral illness, or could it be

attributed to die-off?

Medications?

I just wondered which over the counter medications are SCD compliant

and commonly use. Such as for fever, colds and I did see that magnesium

citrate is ok for constipation. Can anyone help me with this? I gave my

son a natural cold and flu formula but now think it had something in it

that caused him to get up in the night and not go back to sleep, was a

bit more hyper as well.

Hello,

I was just trying to get an idea of what is legal or not. My son has been

doing better as far as constipation. His respiet worker had the same cold

symptoms as he has now after he was with her a few days. I am pretty sure it is

a cold , but maybe some die off reaction with it too. Any advice you have I will

appreciate being that I am new to this diet.

I listed some legal options for you yesterday, in my response...... to relieve

cold symptoms. There are not many legal over-the-counter medications for

children. Most have added sugars and other illegals, which is why I listed the

things I did.
