I wouldn't do the fruits at all. Just the veggies and maybe a little fruit juice just to get the carbs. Is he taking any magnesium? That will help a bit. I recommend the magnesium taurate. My dd takes it. It will help things move out a little faster so you won't see the black tarry stool. For my dd, the black, tarry stools were too much protein, Constipation, ammonia due to all the protein and the goat yogurt helped with the C as well. The black could be occult blood but, if it comes out neg. tomarrow, I would put him through an all-natural parasite cleanse. >snipped Jenn, IMO A parent should be inclined to accept the advice an approved SCD counselor such as Patti on such matters, rather than relying upon well meaning suggestions from the general membership. You suggest protocols and some are outside the province of the diet. Some of the " cleanses " advocated by naturopaths can be contrary to SCD. I had personal experience in an instance of two such cleanses which used rice based formulas. At the time they were advocated, I had just started SCD and was angry at my regular family doctor for responding to my sudden immune problems by questioning my sanity so was inclined to follow the naturopath without question. The treatment was useless. As a " quasi moderator, " ( translated it just means " veteran, " ) I shy away from trying to untangle the puzzle of the many supplements advocated,. I take only one, magnesium. I am going to repeat that Elaine made it clear that we are not doctors of medicine and are not qualified to advise on medical matters which this could well be. If I had a young child that presented that symptom, I would see a doctor and quickly. We cannot say the child in question has the same thing as yours had. When my og had black tarry stools, something was definitely wrong and I acted quickly by going to our vet. I wanted to be safe than sorry. In that case it turned out there was a serious gastric condition. Acting quickly was a life saver. Also, I would not advise anyone to eliminate fruit entirely from SCD. Carol F. Guest guest
I wasn't speaking of a cleanse by a ND or a doc for that matter. What I mean by cleansing is using clove oil & a carrier to the bottom of feet at night or probio's. Something like this. There is a lot of reading into what people say here and not enough clarification BEFORE jumping to conclusions. I did apologize to Patti and shouldn't be grilled any longer. I am experienced giving my child supps. EXPERIENCE and knowing your child well can help you figure out nutritional deficiencies and these kids have those problems as well. I only tried to help offering what we have done. I NEVER claimed to be a doc. I refferred Kristie to the best GI I know. You'll need to relax!
