Keep your starter in the frig. You can use raw milk to make yogurt. wWhen you

heat it to the required temp, you kill off any harmful bacteria.

yogurt starter....

Our yogurt starter came in today. Can someone please tell me if it's suppose

to be kept in the fridge or the freezer? I know it needs to be kept cold. Since

K has the croup and is congested, I will wait until it passes to start the goat

yogurt again. Also, can you use fresh goat milk to make your yogurt? I always

thought it would be best but, now I'm wondering if the bacteria would be a bad

thing for making yogurt. I am heating the milk to 185*. Thanks for your time,

Jenn & K

It depends on which starter you ordered. I use Yogourmet... and it says on the

box to keep it in the fridge. I don't know about the GI Progurt.

You can make yogurt starting with fresh, raw goat milk.... in fact, that is

ideal. You will ALWAYS heat your milk up enough to kill any bacteria that might

possibly be there. You want to aim for 180 degrees F..... and to hold it there

for 2 minutes before starting to cool (that's what I do anyway).... and with

goat milk, make sure it goes no higher than 185, so you won't damage delicate

proteins.
