Hi Kenya

My son is 3 1/2 and is very similar to your son, except we did have a little

constipation issue. I think this diet can only help you to realize more of your

son's potential by helping to cleanse his system and get rid of any bacteria or

yeast you may not be aware of. Once his gut has healed, it allows the body and

brain to function as it should. There are people using this diet not only for

ASD and chrones disease etc... but also for their kids with ADHD, dyslexia and

other similar issues. There is absolutly nothing harmful about this diet.

Although going from GFCF to SCD may prove a little difficult for your son (you

have to take away alot of the starches he will be used to and sometimes that

causes tantrums and food strikes), but it is all worth it for the health of your

child. Everyone here is great and will be glad to help you through the process.

Hi my name is Kenya and I'm new to the list, I have a 4 1/2 year old

little boy with PDD-NOS, He is quite high functioning, very often

people don't realize he's on the spectrum, he just seems like a little

boy with a speech delay. We have been on the GFCF diet and have seen

some improvement in eye contact and his transition issues. I have just

recently learned about SCD and have ordered the book ( hasn't come yet)

and have browsed the websites recommended by this group. My son

doesn't seem to have any bowel problems, no diarhea or constipation, so

is this diet specifically for people with bowel problems or bowel

problems and ASD or have people used this diet on ASD children with no

bowel problems? I'm sorry if this question seems elementary, I haven't

recieved the book yet and I'm very intrigued by this diet.

Thanks in advance

Hi Kenya,

Welcome to the list. Yes, SCD is definitely benefitial even if you see no

obvious GI issues that need to be dealt with. There is a connection between the

gut and the brain that you will be enlightened to when you finally read Breaking

the Vicious Cycle, and it is completely scientific and medical. It's not just a

theory. This will also give your son optiaml health as the ground work for any

other biomedical interventions that might be necessary down the road like

chelation. You need that strong, healthy gut as the base for everything else.

It is amazing how well things work together when you have this basic part of

healing in place. We'll all be happy to help you however we can.
