Guest guest
Hi...I was told that Cranial Technology is the only band to be approved by the FDA. AND I believe that they are the best. Hence, the second band. Clearly they are on top of things...remember that old saying- " you get what you pay for " . Go w cranial tech. My son just got a DOC band and I am very pleased with their customer service, staff etc. Good luck! > > Hi everyone. I'm so glad to be a member of this group! As we all do, I only want the very best for our son. He is 4.5 months, age adjusted, 3 months. He has plagio and torticollis. My husband and I have decided to get him fitted for a cranial band. We met with cranial tech and were impressed. I have since heard of hanger and level 4. Any input on any or all of these would be wonderful! Our insurance doesn't cover the band, and it is what it is. We would do anything for our baby boy. Thing is, level four said that there would definitely be only one band needed, and cranial tech said there may be a need for a second band, doubling the price. If level 4 is just as good as cranial tech, and I can be sure he would only need the one band, then I would go with them. We only want the very very best! If what's better costs extra, we don't care! Please help! I could use your helpful advise. Thank you in advance! >

Guest guest
Actually, CT is not the only approved band. It was the first one to go through the process, but not the only one. http://www.plagiocephaly.info/resources/cranial_orthoses.asp As you can see from this link, there are multiple companies who manufacture the bands. I would highly recommend that you visit the different offices and meet the providers and find out what your options are before you decide. CT is the most " branded " out there with the nicest website, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are the best for you or your family. Look around and you will find lots of kids with excellent results from ALL the different bands. We chose the STARBand and have been very happy. We went with it because of the recommendation of our neurologist. She didn't recommend CT because they often have to use 2 helmets, which doubles your cost AND she said that she had seen the same results with the STARBand, so why pay more for the same result? Just because CT is the most expensive, doesn't mean they are the best...do what works for your family, both financially and medically! The offices and treatments will vary from city to city, so I would absolutely check out the other offerings in your area and then make your decision. Good luck! > > Hi...I was told that Cranial Technology is the only band to be approved by the FDA. AND I believe that they are the best. Hence, the second band. Guest guest
I don't agree. My provider was trained to fit the helmet and to do the scan and we are not using CT. I know that CT provides a wonderful service, but so does my orthotist! Just because they charge more doesn't mean that their band works any better than the other ones out there! Parents really need to research ALL the options, visit ALL those options in their areas and then make their choice. Good luck to everyone! > > Cranial Tech is also the ONLY " helmet " companies that train there staff and they are the only place you get can them from. I agree you get what you pay for!!! Guest guest
I think it's important to clarify that CT therapists are all trained equally and regularly across the board, whereas Orthoamerica and Hanger don't regulate or oversee training for all of their orthos across the country. It is wonderful that you have a very well-trained STARBand ortho, but sadly, it's been proven time and again that not everyone is equally as fortunate (though thankfully, it is the minority). But I definitely agree, it's very important to research all of the options and make sure whatever ortho you work with has solid experience. Guest guest
ALL cranial molding orthoses(bands, helmets) are regulated by the FDA as class II medical devices and require approval.
