Guest guest
Hi All, My son is on SCD diet since May 2006, and we started SCD home made yogurt from Raw Goat Milk fro Sep 2006 onwards. We have not seen any adverse reactions, however my son seems to like it a lot. Does that mean he is addicted to it and is having opiod kind of reaction, which is very common reaction to cassein in Autistic Kids. Thanks and Regards Mohinder Chopra __________________________________________________
Guest guest
If he likes it a lot, but you don't see negative symptoms, I would not worry about it. He just knows a good thing when he gets it. I only worry about kids REALLY liking a food, when they like it so much that they won't eat ANYthing else..... I don't like to see self-limiting, even to SCD legal foods. Guest guest
Hi Patti, I am mainly concerned because on his IgG and IgE allergy panel, he is OK on IgE, but under IgG he is very allergic to Cassein/Milk etc. Does that mean he will be allergic to Goat Yogurt also? Since IgG is slow allergy, it is hard to tell. My son has to take one Singulair tablet a day , otherwise his bronchial tubes get inflamed and infected with mucus, he starts drooling and can't eat anything, becomes difficult to breath. So my question is that, do kids with Cassein allergies, do well on SCD Goat Yogurt? Thanks and Regards Mohinder Chopra Patti wrote: If he likes it a lot, but you don't see negative symptoms, I would not worry about it. He just knows a good thing when he gets it. Guest guest
Mohinder, Yes, many SCD kids who previously had sensitivities to cow dairy casein are able to tolerate, and do very well on, SCD goat yogurt. If the allergy test was done on COW dairy, then I am not sure how closely this would reflect the effects of GOAT dairy. The two have different forms of casein. Many kids with cow casein issues do well with SCD goat yogurt. We usually suggest waiting until the child has been on SCD a few months, then introducing the goat yogurt in very small quantities. I don't know much about the various allergy panels, I will admit. I don't think they really give very much valuable information, to be honest. These kids with damaged, leaky guts will test positive for MANY things. In time, as the gut heals, those " sensitivities " seem to *magically* vanish..... for many kids. I would not feed him anything that causes an obvious, negative reaction....and Elaine always told us to avoid any food that causes anaphylactic reaction.... forever. But, when there is no visible negative symptoms... just a test score.... then, it's possible that over time, the child will be able to eat those foods without any fallout. Just remember, if the testing was done on COW dairy.... you can't really go by that. They would have needed to test for GOAT. Also, the 24 hour fermentation process we use for SCD yogurt does change the casein in the goat milk, making it much more digestible.
