Guest guest
I didn't paint my daughters (it was a starband and had a design), but you should use Acrylic paints. There may be some painting tips in the files section of this group. -christine sydney, 4.5 yrs, starband grad > > Hi my grandson is going in this week to get fitted for his band, I saw the link on the cranial tech site about decorating his band, it's not showing the kind of paints to use now...Can someone tell me what they used...?thanks >
Guest guest
I am not sure on the specific type of paint but I think craft paint is fine as long as you use a laquer or some sort of sealer over the top of the paint and that is the most important thing.... My daughter has Plagiocephaly and we got very in to the decorating of the helmet and have made a website where we are selling hats, onesies, bows (which wouldnt help your grandson), and repositionable stickers... There is a ton to chose from and its very cute stuff. It should be up and running tomorrow (right now its private) so check back if its not up www.stylinbabyhelmets.com enjoy
Guest guest
I was too hesitant to paint the whole band but I did add some really cute flower stickers meant for scrapbooking. People say you can use modgepodge (from s?) to seal the stickers on but I just used clear fingernail polish. It's my understanding that they will have to be replaced every few weeks but I figure that will just give us the opportunity to get her a new look. You can use nail polish remover. If you google " decorating a DocBand " you'll find a ton of great tips.AmyOn Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at 11:05 AM, candacelgoodman <candacelgoodman@...> wrote: Hi, My son just got his DOC Band on today and I was hoping that someone could give me some decorating tips. Guest guest
I cannot speak to the paint...... We choose to have our Daughter's airbrushed by a local artist. When I contacted him with the request and he learned what it was he did it for free. Since we had hers done I have given his card to several people who have used him as well. He is still not charging.... That could be an option for you. I just googled airbrush artist in my area. Most of them had websites so I sent out emails. No one has one like hers and it looked so awesome. We got compliments every time we were out. Guest guest
Hi,My daughter wore her DOC Band for 8 weeks and we decorated it with stickers. I was going to paint it but I didn't want it to chip and I was concerned about the smell of the paint on something that my baby would wear for 23 hours a day. I went to Micheal's, AC , and even Target and found cute stickers. The stickers lasted about 3 weeks without any sealant to protect them. I liked it because I could change our theme every couple of weeks. I hope your son adjusts wells to the band. Guest guest
My son is in his second DOC band and I decorated both. I'll explain what I did... 1st Band (Painted & Mickey themed) ***worked the best and came out very cute!*** 1. Used 1 coat of Kilz primer (got it at Home Depot)...A must!!! I put the primer on the entire surface but it was hard to get on the edges. It was so watery that if you got to close to the edge it would bleed into the foam. So I stayed away from the edges and that was the only place the paint peeled off during the month of treatment. It didn't peel often, and it would be such a tiny peel no one could really notice except me. I would retouch with paint and it was fine. 2 Painted about 5 THIN coats of Apple Barrel acrylic paint (purchased at s)...important to apply thin coats since you are painting on plastic and don't want it to be streaky or peel. I used a fan in between to help dry it. It did take some time. I went with a cobalt blue color and think if I went with a lighter color I wouldn't need so many coats. This was a time consuming step therefore I suggest doing this the 1st night when they dont have to sleep in the band. 3. 2 coats of varnish (also picked up at Home Depot) 4. Then I applied the Mickey Mouse stickers. (This I did on the 2nd night.) 5. Another coat or two of varnish. I first tried Mod Podge as I read everywhere to use that but within a week it peeled up and I literally removed the entire layer of mod podge in one piece. Similar to peeling nail polish of your nails. I then used varnish and it never peeled, but I did have to reapply it every week or so to keep it looking fresh. It dries fast. I would paint the varnish on when I took it off for bath time and it would be dry by the time he was bathed and dressed. 2nd Band (Jungle stickers): ***still trying to master sealing this one, so learn from my mistakes*** I initially was going to paint it but had a hard time finding stickers and a color that would match. So I placed stickers and rub-ons on the band directly, and then followed up with 2 coats of the same varnish I used on the first band. After a week the varnish is peeling! It doesn't look bad because it's a satin finish varnish on the white band but it bothers me. I am going back to the craft store tomorrow to see if I can find a different sealant that won't peel. The stickers and rub-ons seem to be just fine though. Have fun!!!Tara In a message dated 2/10/2011 11:24:14 A.M. Guest guest
We used stickers from 's and then applied a couple of coat's of Modpodge. Very easy to apply. I did discover that when cleaning the band with alcohol that the modpodge would become temporarily tacky if the alcohol came into contact with the modpodge. Simple to remedy...we were just more careful about how we held the band when cleaning. Good luck. > Plagiocephaly > From: coolbeanz619@...> Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2011 05:59:52 +0000> Subject: Re: Decorating the DOC Band> > We used acrylic paint to paint my daughter's Doc Band.> Here's the link to the hand-out we were given...> > http://www.cranialtech.com/images/stories/DecoratingBands/letsdecorate.pdf> > HTH!> > > > > > > > > >> > > >> > > > Hi,> > > > My son just got his DOC Band on today and I was hoping that someone could> > > > give me some decorating tips.
