Guest guest
Dear Robin, I know you’re angry. I know you are disappointed. I know you are tired of being obese. Dr. R. may not be the one for you. Pick another Dr. who doesn’t require a packet. If you want the MGB though, you are going to have to go through what every single post op had to go through. A packet required and approved by Dr. R! Surely you don't think he approved us without using the same criteria -- do you? I'm not a relative of Dr. R's... he didn't elect me as a favorite. I didn't have any slack cut. Did any of you other post ops not have to work to get your packet in tip-top shape? As for another surgeon doing the MGB, they are forthcoming. And yes, they will have less of a track record since this procedure was “created” and or perfected by Dr. R. (Meaning a modified Billroth 2 for the treatment of morbid obesity – done laproscopically). My packet wasn’t turned down, (it was approved on the first pass - hallelujah) so I can only guess what feelings you are going through. I personally sent you my letter for you to look at, but in your email to the list you didn’t even bother to mention that at least one person on this list tried to support you and help you by sending you an honest to goodness 10 page, 12-font, thorough patient letter. And as for your PCP, just have the man (or woman) fill out the form that was on line. Your anger should be at them for skimpy documentation... though that’s no big deal. Just have them fill out the form on line. It's for your health, not Dr. R's. As for the psych eval, I will have you know that the national insurance standards set my Milliman and on requires it! Dr. R did not make this requirement up! Look at the letter that he sends out on MS Word. Read it people READ IT. He's not the only one requiring it. So do the Dr's at the Alvarado Center in San Diego (who did Carnie's surgery). It's in their literature too. I agree with the psych eval myself. One should be fully aware of what they are getting into and understand that the " freedom " from the weight also carries the mental consequences (and not always good). So give the good Dr. a break. The man is just doing his job (and a good one I might add). __________________________________________________
