Guest guest
My son had his eval at CT yesterday and his Cranial Vault Assymetry was 14. He will be 1 tomorrow. She said the best we can hope for is a 7 and even that was being pretty generous. And that would be after 6 months of wearing a DOC Band (2 bands likely). So, end result is that his head will never be perfect. He also had tort and even after 5.5 months of PT, she still saw him tilting on & off during our eval. She was telling us that the tort can throw off muscle development throughout the body and that we should resume PT with him to make sure he stays on track. I thought Tyler's tort was corrected, but I'm discovering that it's really a stubborn muscle to work with, especially as they get older and more mobile. So, first, congratulations on your amazing progress! You are blessed that you started earlier. If I was in your boat, and that close to " 0 " , I'd keep going, especially if he seems to be tolerating the helmet ok. I know it's probably a real pain having to deal with the helmet, but a few months more effort now could potentially save you years of pain & grief & guilt down the road. Ultimately, though, only you can make the best decision for your child. Best of luck and congrats!
Guest guest
If it were me, I'd keep the helmet on as long as possible if only for " maintenance " , especially if he still has a touch of tort. My reasons are that 1. He's still fairly young, so his skull is softer, which would make me worry about regression, 2. I've heard the tort can make regression more likely, and 3. Why not? Wearing it longer can only help. BTW, congrats on the great improvement! > > My 5 1/2 month old son has been wearing his StarBand for 5 weeks. He initially measured a 10mm difference in R-L (I forget the name for the measurement) and now he is measuring at 2-5mm. Of course we are really happy with this progress, but the orthodist still keeps pushing 3-4 months. My son sleeps on his stomach now and his tort is almost fully corrected so I am not sure he would need it that whole time. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks. >
Guest guest
Hi, I don't understand is current measurement 2-5 do you mean 2.5? if so that sounds like he's " done " , but that measurement doesn't capture everything. You should go on appearance too. Also is his head wider than normal (does he have any brachy)? It may mean that he could benefit from growth in the back of his head too (not just correcting the asymmetry). Personally I wouldn't keep the band on if I was 100% comfortable with the head shape. then you have to monitor it and should still go for adjustments to make sure it is fitting properly since his head is still growing fast. It is not as if you can say, now we are done, but lets just keep it on for a while. -christine sydney, 4.5 yrs, starband grad > > My 5 1/2 month old son has been wearing his StarBand for 5 weeks.
