Guest guest
Maybe if you are comfortable posting the numbers and their names, someone might know what they mean. I saw a website that showed a diagram of all the measurements. It was really confusing to me, but I'll try to find it for you in case it helps. > > I have the numbers from my daughter's scan in front of me. I read all the posts and people always give numbers, but I did not get any of the numbers for things people are calling them. I am in Michigan and going through Children's Hospital and they use the Danmar Helmet and was scanned by Omega Tracer. > Can someone please point me in the direction of someplace I can use to figure out what the numbers mean and some sort of scale to see how off she is? Is 0 perfect? I do not even know what to compare it to. All I can say is the person from and Fillipis is not helpful and I do not go back to see the doctor until I get the helmet in 2 weeks. I cannot even comprend what I am up against, because I have no idea of what the numbers mean... Someone who has been there, please help. > > Tina > Mother to Camille 7 months >

Guest guest
I will post them later on today....I forgot to bring them with me to work Re: way confused Can you post the information that you have? >> I have the numbers from my daughter's scan in front of me. Guest guest
Here are the numbers I do not understand. There is a measurement for Q1 volume (a/l) 215.2cc Q2 Volume (a/r) 214.6cc Q3 Volume (p/r) 277.7cc Q4 Volume (p/l) 251.0cc Anterior symmetry ratio 1.00 Posterior symmerty ratio .90 Overall symmetry ratio is 1.06 Her cranial vault index is 6.45 (I usually see people post it in a percentage) Cephalic Ratio is .96 The difference between her oblique measurements is 9mm Upper facial symmentry Ratio .91 I am just curious because I see people post numbers for Midface and skull base. I am sure one of these numbers is that measurement though I just do not know what one. As a side note I have finally finished jumping though the nesessary hoops the insurance company needs for approval. I needed measurements, pictures, pt notes, and notes from our Manual manipulation doctor to get approval. Her treatment made a huge difference. I do not have numbers from prior to the start of her treatment, but the obvious facial symmetry improved greatly. One of Camille's eyes was almost closed due to the cranial shift. The numbers relect where her treatment stopped as she did not feel she could get her any better. Helmet was ordered yesterday and I should have it early during the week of July 26th. We are starting helmet therapy late as Camille will be 8 months old on the 20th. However she has had cranial manipulation and pt for 4 months prior. She is currently still in pt twice a week for her torticollis. Thanks in advance for any comments. Guest guest
The difference is in whether the person had a STARband or doc band (sorry Hanger people - I don't kow what they do for you). Doc band does the other measurements that you mention because they do hand measurements. Yours are from the STARscanner. Here is what I know. Symmetry ratios are another way to look at plagio. In general, they should be in the 90s. The anterior means the front and posterior means the back. They compare the left side to the right side. It is a way to take into account the symmetry of the whole head rather than just the symmetry of one slice of the head. In general, yours are not that bad and the front is great. The cephalic ratio is the one that you usually see as a percentage. .96 means 96 percent and that is the brachy measurement. It is calculated by dividing the width by the length and multiplying by 100. 96 percent is a pretty significant brachy problem. My daughter was 95 percent before she was banded and graduated at 92.2 percent. In general, you want to get out of the 90s and into the middle 80s if possible. The difference of 9 mm that you mention is provided by both hand meausements and the starscan. It is done at level 3, which is where the circumferance measurement is taken. But, it only describes the asymmetry at one slice of the head. This is why the starscanner also looks at the symmetry ratios. The level 3 difference number doesn't tell the whole story. In general, a number of 9 mm means borderline mild to moderate plagio. However, in your case, those asymmetry ratios tell me that the plagio part of the head looks better overall than it does at that one slice. The plagio is probably more mild than moderate. So, in all, I would say that your baby has more of a brachy problem than a plagio problem. Does that help a little bit? Guest guest
it does help. I would just like to clarify that our scan was done on the Omega Tracer, and our helmet provider is Danmar. My specialist does not use any band, just the full helmet. Camille's flat spot is on the back right side causing a protrusion out the left back. Her forhead / eyes look way better after the manual manipulation. We cannot get it any better because of her torticollis. That is why we are getting the helmet later than most. We were trying to avoid it, but that did not happen. I still have feeling of guilt over deciding to go the route we did. I could have just went into the helmet to start with as I was given a choice. I do not regret the decision we made, just wonder if we waited too long. Hopefully we will be in the helmet in 2 weeks. It is nice to know where I want her numbers to end up. Thank you for all the information...I really appreciate it. Re: way confused Can you post the information that you have? >> I have the numbers from my daughter's scan in front of me. Guest guest
Oh, don't feel guilty. I bet all the therapy you've been doing with her has helped enough that Camille won't have to wear the helmet as long as she would have and/or will have a better end result. You said yourself that it has helped. Even though I know it's completely normal to feel guilty, I just feel so awful when I read that someone worked so hard to get their child treatment and still feels guilty. You did a great job!!! Good luck with the helmet. > > > > I have the numbers from my daughter's scan in front of me.
