Guest guest
Hi all, I am new to the group & new to pancreatitis, I think. My name is & I am 37 yrs old. I have just been told that my amalyase & lypase enzymes are slightly elevated. (Amalyase - 118, Lipase - 74). I am sure that sounds quite low to a lot of you out there & my doctors do not seem to be alarmed at all. I have just had an abdominal CT scan, as well as an MRI, both of which showed nothing other than a slight thickening of my left adrenal gland. No gallstones, no inflammation of the pancreas, ducts, or anything...everything looked normal. However, I have these strange symptoms! Sigh. I am experiencing strange (to me) stomach pains as well as pinching/jabbing pains in my right & lower upper quadrants. I also have the belching & light colored stools. As I said, my doctors don't seem concerned, in fact my family doctor has just left me totally hanging for the holiday. If it wasn't for getting copies of my reports myself, I still would know nothing except that my bloodwork showed the increased enzymes. I am concerned because I have never experienced anything quite like this before. And, the absolute worst part for me is the nausea...especially from chocolate, which is my favorite!!! I am not a drinker or smoker & I would say the only times I have a sip of wine is at Thanksgiving (which I didn't this year) & Christmas. I am not sure if this can have anything to do with pancreatitis, but I have been taking some supplements over the last few months. I have been making a smoothie each morning with fiber, Goatein (by Garden of Life), and Perfect Foods (green foods also by Garden of Life). But, most importantly, I have been seeing a nutritionist who sells Standard Process supplements & have been taking them as directed. During my last set of supplements, I was taking Choline, A-F Betafood, & Immuplex. This is when I started to experience these symptoms. I have also been keeping a food diary & working towards cutting down on my sugar intake & increase my protein to come to more of a balance in my diet. (I have always been a sugarholic & realized after 1 week of keeping the diary that I don't get enough protein). I have since stopped this because I am just grateful for anything that I can get in me without pain or nausea. I haven't been eating much, but I have gotten some turkey in as well as chicken, chicken & more chicken. I am so upset that this is happening to me and an fearful that it is not going to go away. I was hoping that maybe once I stopped the supplements (which they told me were to help my gallbladder function properly), that maybe things would settle down, but it has been almost 2 weeks and I still don't feel well. I feel like all I do is go from doctor to doctor about one thing or another. For over 10 years I have had chronic fatigue syndrome, then fibromyalgia, then intersitital cystitis, and the list goes on. So, this latest diagnosis has really been a blow to me. It also feels like when I try to do something to help myself get well (like change my diet & add supplements to help me heal), I end up making myself worse. I guess my questions are has anyone else had only slightly elevated enzymes numbers with symptoms??? What happens from here??? Will I ever be able to eat chocolate again??? If every test is coming back normal except the bloodwork, what does that mean...should I be as concerned as I am??? I am not even sure what my other questions are, as everything is still spinning in my brain. If anyone can offer me any advice or answer any of my questions, I would be so grateful!! I want to thank you all for being here for support. It is wonderful knowing that there are people to talk to out there that are going through the same things...even though I do not wish this on anyone at all!! Hoping you all had a wonderful holiday & thank you again for any information you can provide! Peace & Prayers,
