What we use and have used forever is a product called Control 3. It

kills everything and is very economical. A small bottle lasts at least 6

months. You mix an ounce with 2 gallons of water and save it for 2

weeks, and you can soak your nebs daily or I have heard it is OK to just

soak them every 3 days. When I was cleaning nebs I did it daily. We did

rinse in tap water however. But can someone explain why tap water is

bad? Our kids (and the adults of course!) take daily showers. Wouldn't

taking a shower where the water is practically nebulized do the same

thing? I mean you breathe in the steam etc. No one is suggesting our

kids bathe in sterile water! Anyway, probably no one knows, and back to

neb cleaning, I recommend the Control 3. Grandmom Bev has it, any home

health store that has respiratory supplies probably has it and it is

great stuff. The way treats her nebs now would make you all

faint. She never cleans,. just rinses! . I am going to get them all

together today and clean them, since she is sick now. In spite of this

she hardly ever gets sick. I can't explain it.

for what its worth, what we do....

love,

Hi Cheryl - I tried to get Control III through our respiratory equipment

supplier. In the U.S., PARI carries it and so he tried through the PARI

supplier and was told it is not approved for 'sale' in Canada. It doesn't

mean it is not good, just that no one may have put it through the approval

process here.

There are other disinfectants available here but they are a little more

expensive.

If you really want some, you could probably order it through GrandMom Bev's

pharmacy and have it shipped here.

Hi ,

I used to wonder the same thing, so I asked my

pulmonary doctor about this. Here's what he said:

Tap water can contain pseudomonas, but generally it

lurks in the the pipes in the standing water. He

suggested we run the tap for about 3 minutes for first

time use, to clear the standing water from the pipes.

Then, it should be pretty safe to use. However, this

is the reason you can never really eliminate pa from

your cf child's environment.

I asked about the shower thing too, and he suggested

they take warm, but not hot (read steamy) baths, to

reduce the water particles in the air.

As for rinsing your nebs in tap water, the most

important thing to do is make sure the nebs are

thoroughly dry before using them. We use a dish dryer

from a Japanese company called Sunpentown.

Hope this helps!

Dear Peggy,

oops you're right. I don't use a 2 gallon bowl! 2 quarts is right. we seem to

be having measurement problems on this list!

love & thanks

RE: neb cleaning

I could have sworn that it said one tablespoon to 2 quarts on the mixing

instructions that I have.

Dear ,

YES, We ship all over the world.

I have been on line with her as well. It is more expensive for the shipping

out of the country , then it is for the Control III. She is coming to FL. in

a few weeks , near where we are & I offered to just send to her there. I

states , any order over $25.oo , we don't charge shipping , so , If she gets

2 bottles (almost her years needs. It will just be over $25.99. They are

$15.45 per 8oz. bottle. It is highly concentrated , as you know , so it most

likely , depending on how many & how often she cleans , etc. -----could last

5-6 months each bottle.

I am waiting for them to decide which would be easier. Thanks you so much

for the help for her as well.

I hope & wish all the best for you & yours

LOVE & HUGS
