Guest guest
I don't have answer for you because we are just beginning too. I just wanted to say that my son is getting his doc band at the Charlotte location on Wednesday. Maybe our paths will cross! I think they will give you a timeline there if you ask. My son is 4.5 months and they said 6-10 weeks for 1st band. They grow faster when they are his age. Then we will see if he needs a second one. He is severe plagio with brachy as well. I don't know what to say about no air conditioning in this heat. Maybe someone will have advice. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Hi, Babies take about a week usually to adjust their body temp. In the meantime they sweat a lot. You take the band off and wipe both the band and the baby's head down with a dry towel. Also dress the baby very cool. My daughter was in california and wore a onsie and diaper most days. In NC maybe it will just be a diaper :-) Keep the fan on and try to make him comfortable. Cool the car down with A/C before putting him in. Or if that isn't possible take the band off so he won't overheat in the car. CT can probably give you the best idea of how long he'll need the band. If he's severe he may need two bands (he may outgrow the first and not be done). Let us know how he does. -christine sydney, 4.5 yrs, starband grad > > My grandson is getting measured for his doc band this wednesday...we can't wait to get it back and get him going on this journey...bad time tho HOT here in Charlotte,NC What do people do with sweating in the band?My daughter does not have air conditioning...unfortunately... > He is 7 months and has moderate to severe plagiocephaly and braciocephaly also... > I wonder how long he will have to wear it? >
Guest guest
I'm sorry to say it, but I would expect a second band and be pleasantly surprised if he doesn't need one. They should be able to give you their best guess as to the length of treatment, but being over 6 months and severe would probably put it close to 6 months if I had to guess. That's just my guess though. As far as the heat issue, keep him in just diapers, fan whenever he's sleeping, if their are multiple floors, keep him on the cooler lowest floor. Even better, set up a play area in the basement if you have one. Get a kiddie pool (don't get his helmet wet) and/or go to the beach/pool a lot, or do cool baths. Just don't get in the habit of taking his helmet off a lot to " swim. " Try to do it in such a way that his head doesn't get wet if possible. Wipe his body down with cool, wet washclothes. Go to airconditioned libraries, stores, mall, etc. Most libraries have toys, and he can play in the cool as long as he likes for free. What's better! Also, make sure you wipe out his helmet/head with a dry cloth and put it right back on regularly. I added an extra cleaning to my son's helmet routine in the am because it got too stinky. Good luck! > > > I don't have answer for you because we are just beginning too. I just wanted to say that my son is getting his doc band at the Charlotte location on Wednesday. Guest guest
I am just wondering if you can put something to remove the excess water of sweat. Guest guest
My son has had his helmet for 3 weeks now and he sweats alot, they had to drill wholes in the back of his helmet to help and they told us to take it off for short breaks in the day, 10 minutes or so several times a day. We had a terrible heat rash already. I can see a huge difference already in his head, he is mod or severe as well.
