Guest guest
My DS is currently on Prevacid for reflux, in addition to Pentasa for his bowel inflammation. I haven't looked into the Pentasa yet, but I know the Prevacid is definitely not legal. I'd been wanting to take him off the Prevacid anyway, as I just don't think it's good to suppress stomach acid long term, but even the more gentle herbal remedies are not legal. The one our nutritionist recommended contains marshmallow root. So two questtions .. 1) Generally speaking, what do you do when meds are not legal? 2) Specifically, does anyone know of any legal reflux meds? Is Zantac legal? Thanks! Guest guest
Sharon, The general consensus is that if you can find a compounding pharmacy to make your meds without those illegals then that is a great option. However, for many that is not an option. Necessity of taking meds is very real and so if there are illegals in the meds then we just must deal with that. I take salofalk and there is lactose in it but I take it anyway. We don't want anyone to stop their meds for that small amount of illegals. As for the recommendations from a nutritionist: unfortunately, they are generally not versed in SCD and don't understand that the very remedy they are giving will actually cause more problems than solve. Reflux does usually go away after some time on SCD. As the bacterial balance improves so does the ability to break food down. Enzymes and probiotics can be helpful in easing reflux. So if your nutritionist suggests something, you can post what it is here and then we will be able to tell you whether its ok or not. hope this helps, Charlene UC 8 years SCD 6 years My DS is currently on Prevacid for reflux, in addition to Pentasa for his bowel inflammation.
