Guest guest
Hi all, My son (just under 3 years old) was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 2 weeks ago tomorrow, and we were lucky enough to be told about this diet the same day of the diagnosis and started it immediately. It's been rough having it all thrown at us out of the blue, I have been really trying to follow the diet religiously but have messed up several times. Anyway, we have high hopes that we can heal his gut before we want to resort to drugs his GI doctor wants us to give him. We plan to start the intro diet tonight, since we didn't do that in the beginning. Anyone else have a small child with ulcerative colitis? I can see that this list is primarily for Autistic children, our son has no Autistic symptoms, just the colitis. We haven't been able to find anyone with such a young child with this illness as of yet. We have no family history, although we are of Jewish heritage and have been told that puts us at higher risk statistically. My husband and I believe that our son developed this as a result of early antibiotic use/overuse, but our GI doctor dismissed that immediately, so we don't have a professional on our side who believes in the power of diet to heal. We sort of feel " out there " on our own right now.
Guest guest
Hi I read the post on your son with UC... my daughter was diagnosed with eosinophilic colitis at 1 1/2. I think you are right on the mark with SCD, and looking atthe antibiotic yeast connection to it all. We were told to take our daughter off all food ( literally) wean her and feed her a medical formula. We chose this instead. If you live in an old house, ( before 1978) or if your child spends time in an old building ( school, church, etc) I highly reccomend looking into a provoked urine heavy metals test. Our daughter turned out to have lead toxicity, and removing the lead source, as well as SCD and eventually chelating her has helped a lot. Good luck. Ellen mother to Emma SCD since 7/06 eosinophililc colitis and lead toxicity
