Guest guest
- I have had a total of three Celiac Plexus Blocks done. 2 of them done down the throat, endoscopically. The 3rd one, and most recent one, I had done through the back. I had total relief from my first one for 3 weeks and then landed back in the hospital with a horrible attack, IV malfunctioned and the Dalaudid nearly killed me. The second, also placed endoscopically lasted about 3-4 weeks (no major whammy, just a gradual increase of pain) and then back in September I had one placed in my back. It didn't help much at all, but then my pain doctor said that I probably needed another placed to get the full effect. Unfortunately, my next scheduled block occurred when I was in the hospital because I took estrogen and flared my pancreas, and thus, after spending yet another weekend in the hospital again this weekend(twice in October), I am finally getting back in for my second block on Monday. I wonder since it has been 6-7 weeks since my last one if I will achieve the pain he speaks of, and I so pray that I get this time! I hope your block goes well! They will give you " happy juice " that make you aware, but you won't care...I was sleepy while riding home (we live an 1.5 hours from this hospital) but I was awake the whole time they placed the block. Expect some very soft stools right after the procedure (I had 2 before I left the recovery room) and for the first time (cuz I wasn't heavily sedated with the 3rd one) I wasn't all that nauseated and I felt pretty good (narcotics on board) I do have to say in all honesty, I would prefer the endoscope block over the back, but at this point (and you may be there too) I will take the back " puncture " pain for a couple of days if it leads to relief!! Having it done down the throat has no incisions at all (which I liked and got spoiled with) but down the throat my gastro doc will only do every 3 months...through the back, they will do every 4 weeks if needed. I pray all goes well. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me. Suzi B.
